In Topic: Best places for a new resident of Tj to see/do??

14 July 2008 - 01:24 AM

Hello Acapulco , welcome to Tijuana!

Here is list of places I like to go to:
-Casa de Cultura in Col. Altamira: i'ts a beautiful old mansion turned college/ turned theater-art school, it has a theater and various workshops, they teach music, dance, painting, artes plasticas, etc.

-El Palacio de la cultura is also one of my favorite places to go, it's in calle 2da downtown, it offers painting exhibitions from local artists.

-Centro Cultural Tijuana (la bola) in zona Rio, it has 2 or 3  museums, a theater , an omnimax screen theater, gardens , a kids library , book store , mini movie theater.

if your into trova music (bohemian cuban music) go to El Lugar del Nopal, in callejon 5 de mayo and calle Miguel f. Martinez

-Plaza del zapato , zona Rio, a lot of small clubs that play different  kinds of music from norteño music to hard rock, house and latin music.

I like to go to the malecon in Playas and walk through the metal pillars to the US side. Or listen to mini concerts on Sundays.

if what your looking for is adult entertainment, a lot of americans go to the Adelitas bar (brothel) in zona norte, but I went to a club near the Gato Bronco Blvd on the east side of the city with my husband and I felt comfortable, it's called La Botana. Or just walk by ave Revolucion you'll find lots of interesting places there.

In Rosarito , we like to go to Popotla where there are a lot of sea food restaurants it is a bit smelly, and a lot of vendors sell clamatos and fresh fish right there on the beach where they just throw their fish left overs on the sand for the sea gulls to pick up, but other than that it's nice .

It ain't Acapulco but I'm sure you'll have a great time in Tijuana, Good luck!

In Topic: Diablito

hi , it's spelled diablito, and depends what city you're in , you make it with shaved ice, homemade lime ice cream, salt lime juice , chili powder and chamoy, which is tamarind pulp with chili and artificial color , just like tostilocos in mexicali they put in surimi, here in tijuana you put jicama, cucumbers, peanuts, rielito, cueritos (little strips of pig skin in vinager!) a lot of chili salsa etc, i know it sounds disgusting but i love tostilocos.

In Topic: Local Schools....Children with Special needs

Hello Greeneyegringa:
There's a school in Col. Lucio Blanco (near maquiladora Segi and Sharp) that tends to children with special needs , though I don't know what those special needs are, and i' is not a private school. Maybe they can give you information on other schools in Rosarito. Check escuela 5 de mayo 613-3964, and martires de cananea 613-1123 i's a pre-school.

There are a lot more schools to choose from in Tijuana, I know i'ts a long drive, I take my 3 year old to kinder garden everyday to a tiny school near my mom's house in Tijuana and it's hard on her and it's hard on me, but I just don't trust anybody but my mother to take care of her .
