D'Tony's
7th and Madero
Downtown

Tijuana isn't where I go when I'm craving steak, but when I'm in TJ and want a steak this is one of the few places I'll go. It's not that the steak isn't good--it's good--it is just that it isn't Ruth's Chriss or Mortons.

If you do order steak here make sure you order it one level down from the way you want it made. I order a medium and they gave me a well done. I've actaully notice this a lot in Mexico in that they are not as bloody as we Americans. But it's a nice restaurant regardless, very classy and good for date (went there during Valentines). Bottle of wine isn't too bad price wise either. And very good service. Make sure you know spanish because the menu doesn't have english translations.

Have eaten here a few times in the past 2 months. Never busy but great food and very fast service. 2 entrees, appetizers and drinks and it came to $30 with tip.
Their empanadas are made from scratch and same with the pastas.
Recommend the stuffed chicken breast.

I will try this place out this weekend and write up a report on it....I've been meaning to try it for a while. ronin, please feel free to expect the opposite of what I write...

Ryu, there are very very few places that will get teh correct doneness on a steak in Mexico...I'm actually trying to thinkn of one place where I asked for my medium rare and got what I was hoping for...Maybe Manhattan was the place that comes to mind....

The original owner (Tony Randisi) sold the restaurant almost two years ago and opened a new one in the Little Italy area of San Diego on India Street and Hawthorn next to Starbucks. It is called "Puerto la Boca". Wonderful food, service and ambiance.

I am thinking of taking my girlfriend out tonight since she past a big test for nursing school. Niether of us have had COMIDA ARGENTINA but this place sounds interesting. In driving around down I noticed that for Argentine food there is also a place called Bueno Aires on AVE DE LOS HEROES and a restaraunt which I beleive is called El Porteņo on Aguas Calientes by the twin towers. Can anyone hear speak with regard to those restaurants?

Sorry I have been looking for a coupon for this place for a while sad.gif
No Luck, they should issue coupons it is normaly very dead. Not a single person here the whole time.

If you guys know more Argentinia places in TJ please make new threads about them smile.gif

Argentinian steak is almost as famous as Japanese Kobe steak. In Mexico, most of the meat we buy are asada cut, very thin. There's a Argentinian meat store I see on my drive to Zona Rio, I forgot the exact street but if you're heading down Eighth street from Centro to Zona Rio, you'll see it to your left, look for Carne Mart and then look left, half a block in. I have to go there and buy some good steak one of these days.

Warning do not read on an empty stomach. Will make you run out and grab a slice of real man steak.

Re: the Argentine beef and meat stores;

As a meat and potatoes guy, I heard of Pampas as excellent. It's around the block behind the Z-gas place which is on los Heroes, so that would be Tobada Sabato or something like that. I understand it is like the Argentine restaurant in the San Diego Gaslamp, Rei do Gato with a set price and a tumbler thing you turn for more meat.

I have not been there yet but will be soon and will write of it. Has anyone been there??? Opinions? Recomendations?

Also heard from local neighbor of mine of a butcher shop on 6th and Constitution that has filet mignon for like $30 USD a kilo??? Hard to believe personally but will check that out too in the next week or so.

Stopped in Pampas on Monday about 3pm. The place was 75% full. Talked to manager: $18 per person, all the salad, beef, chicken, turkey you can eat, drinks and deserts extra.

Been to Rei do Gato a few times for $35 or so per person. So $18 sounds good, real good even if close. I am hoping for too much???

Concerning Milky's visits to D' Tony's: It was empty both visits??? I used to eat where ever the truckers were lined up. laugh.gif But the $31 for two sounds good too.

Am I going to have to go to both and stuff my self? biggrin.gif

I'm pretty sure the price goes up to something like $24 per person during dinner.
