Bye, bye Tijuana, see you again. I'll be moving back to San Diego next month, and signed the lease on my apartment yesterday.

It costs me a fortune to drive, I can only drive once per week, and I have to cram everything into one day. which ends up being a minimum of 75 miles.
I hate commuting, and that's what I'm doing. Living in TJ has hampered me from making the money to pay off my bills, which is why I moved.
It's is too far away from everything that I do in San Diego, including working. That's a minimum of a 20 mile one way drive.
Commuting on the trolley costs me time and money. I have to take a cab to the border, then spend a minimum of an hour commuting to where I happen to be working that day.
I have neighbors from hell. The guy in the studio is always asking me for money, and won't take no for an answer.
My next door neighbors fight, throw things at each other, drop things, yell underneath my living window where I sleep in the early morning (and I work nights), want to borrow money, tried to rent out my parking place, and the list goes on. I have a great landlord, and he took care of most of the problems with them (he threatened them with eviction), but they still fight, throw things at each other, and drop things.
My rent will be more, ($595) but I'll be centrally located in the city, and won't have to drive at all, unless I want to, I'll be able to ride my bike, and I'll be able to work out of town. I signed my lease yesterday, and sent an email to my landlord to let him know that I'll be moving out.
My lease starts May 1, and I'm waiting to find out when I can get the keys. The sooner I move back to San Diego, the sooner I can work 5-7 days per week to pay off my bills.
I've been here since September, and haven't been able to pay anything off at all. It's time to go, TJ is too isolated for me, and not worth it. It's good for some people, but not for me. I'll be back for my dental work, and anything else that I need to do, but I won't be driving. When my Mexican insurance runs out in August, I won't be renewing it. That's a savings of $280 per year, and since I only buy six month policies, I don't get a Sentri discount.

My landlord doesn't want me to move. He thinks I should sell my perfectly good running van with no problems, buy a little car and make payments on it, so that he can keep me as a tenant. He asked me to reconsider, and I told him that my lease has already been signed, along with paying the deposit and first month's rent. I told him that he can keep the neighbors from hell, even though he offered to evict them to keep me. I said no deal. I also told him that if I was going to stay in TJ, I would be moving somewhere else to get away from the neighbors from hell.
I just gave away one particle board cabinet, and have another to give away, along with hopefully selling my refrigerator. Granted, I'm going from 1 1/2 bedrooms to a very small studio, but it has a big kitchen for storage, and I won't be driving hardly at all. My cat is also in the lease, he goes where I go.
I won't abandon the board, though, I'll keep everyone posted as to my move.

Too bad TJHopeful, I wish it had worked out for you. I know what you mean about the commute. I only stay 1-2 nights per week in my house, so it's not too bad, but 90 minutes is about average for me to get to Sorrento Valley to where I work. Still looks like a great option for retirement though, or for someone who can work from home or has work near the border.
If I ever do end up living full-time in TJ while working, I think I'll get a motorcycle to cut down on the commute time... and shorten my life expectancy ![]()

It's just a number of things not working out here. My asshole neighbors from hell, the commute, and everything that I do is in San Diego. I'm going to start working in LA a couple of days per week, to recoup the money that I lost by moving here. One of my jobs is nationwide (56 branches), so I can pick up extra work in LA, and when it gets really busy, work in LV and AZ, too. Not driving is really going to help, though.
