I'll be moving to Colonia Independencia next month.  I'm going on Thursday to sign the lease and pay the deposit and first month's rent.  It'll be nice to hear church bells instead of parties, car alarms and cat fights.....

Mmmm you will hear those as well in Tijuana along with banda music until 6am, water shut being off with no notice, no electricity with out notice etc.  But TJ is a fun place to live and not for those that are high maintenance or without patience.  I would not change it for anything.  Welcome to the rest of your life.......................

I'm sure I'll like it.  The place that I'm moving to is much nicer (and much less) than where I live now.

I haven't lived anywhere in TJ or Rosarito where there is no noise; I don't think that exists unless you are on an island or you have a 10-mile perimeter from neighbors; that just doesn't exist in Mexico.

Where in Independencia?  And what's the rent?  My friend lives in a two bedroom two bath with a single car garage (with electric door & remote) inside a main security gate for $450/month.

 

There's maybe 15 or so units inside the gate.

 

Water's been out a couple of times since moving in.  Her previous place (also in Independencia) had a cistern, so when the water went out, it generally didn't affect them unless it went on for more than a day.

 

Expect some initial difficulty in adjusting.  I think you said you wouldn't be crossing daily, so that will help.  I went through a 2-3 month learning curve on getting things done and paying bills.

It's on Calle Aldama, across from Oscar's Market.  I'm renting from a private owner, and it's a one bedroom apartment, but it's more like a cottage, and there's a yard, of which I plan to have lots of plants on pots.

 

The rent on my unit is $250, he also has another one bedroom for $200, and his studios are $125.  It's gated, and there are nine units total. 

 

I expect some initial difficulty adjusting, but that's normal, and I expect a learning curve.

 

I'm signing the lease on Thursday, paying the deposit and first months rent, and he's giving the keys at the same time, and said if I want to move anything in early, he won't charge me.  He pays for the water.

 

After Labor Day, I'll go to the CFE office and have the electricity put into my name.  I'll go to Cablemas the next week.

 

It would be nice if I could start moving now, but I calculated all of my expenses for September, due to the fact the insurance renewal on my van is due in August.  But I'd sure like not to fork over $780 to my current landlord, though.

 

I have to ask him to email me directions on how to get to the property to and from the border.  Other than that, I should be ok.

Have you seen the apt yet?  Is it sorta a green cream? Aldama and Morelos? If so been there done that, bad place, rip off, no security. If you go to google earth, street view, you can still see my grey Cadillac parked there. No hot water. There's a place right across the street on Morelos for rent, better. She speaks English. Me i'm around the corner, sort of, independencia and aldama, if need help pm me.

I am a little surprised that you are renting a place and have not been there see it in person.  This is something I would not advise at all.  Well I hope you get lucky and will not have to move in a few months.

 I know your previous posts indicated it was hard for you to cross into TJ from SD to look at places.  So hopefully the lease is not too long, so that way if you hate it, you're already in TJ and you can start looking for better place around the neighborhood or around town.

Yes, I saw the apartment in person, I looked at it last Friday night.  I found it on Craigslist, it's gated, and the owner speaks English, he seems pretty good.  I spoke to another tenant while I was waiting for the owner, and he said that the owner was a pretty decent guy.

I didn't rent sight unseen, and wouldn't do that.  I also hope not to move for a while unless I have to, since my money will be low.  The lease will be month to month.  The owner said that it used to be a house, and he had it converted into three apartments.

 

I'll be doing most of the moving myself to save money, and only have movers take what I can't carry, which won't be much.  I'm going to have the electricity put into my name right after Labor Day,  After I get a couple of loads moved, I'll go to Cablemas.  I'm still packing and getting rid of stuff, and will get rid of more stuff after I move.

 

I won't be unpacking everything, anyway.  I have stuff that never got unpacked from when I moved into my current place, due to the fact that I wasn't planning to stay in it, but I lost my job, and got stuck for five years.  I'll be going through the boxes, reorganizing, relabeling (not much is labeled), and only unpacking what's necessary.

 

I'll be getting a refrigerator after the electricity is in my name, but I can live without a stove for a while.

I signed the lease today, got the keys, so many that it's overwhelming!  My lease starts September first, but I can start moving stuff in now if I want, but can't. 

 

Keyno - I saw the green cream place, it looks pretty rundown, but that isn't the place that I rented.  Mine is the green and white place directly across the street, behind the gate with the steps.

I won't be actually living there until the end of September, so it senseless to do it now.  I've  already talked to a Cablemas sales rep, and have his email address and phone number.  First comes the electricity.
