What's up everyone. I am a new member and I am happy of having joined this BLOG. I found you guys when I was doing research to plan my honeymoon with my wife, coming up next month. May 14 to be exact. Excited to travel there, never been there! I am driving down there in a rental car, and I just wanted to ask you guys if this was a good idea. I am Originally from EL Paso Texas, but live now in Denver. So I am used to Juaritos and the border life!

As the resident expert driver of TJ, I recommend you get Mexican insurance and not from the rental company.

But, before crossing the border, make sure the Rental Company okays you taking the car into Mexico. Not all rental companies allow it.

If I were going on a honeymoon, (it would be a cold day in hell) but I think I would find a nicer place then TJ. Maybe go a little further south, even to Rosarito Beach.

I agree ... except I'd say Ensenada at a minimum.
And I'm assuming you are doing the rental to cut down on costs? Maybe do away with the rental hassle, take an Amtrak to TJ and use a bus (one right at the border takes you the Central Camion the big bus station) to take you to anywhere in Mexico - as far as Mazatlan is a manageable (believe it or not) 24 hour ride. The buses are actually quite posh for U.S. standards much less what you might expect from Mexico. Having had their rail industry relegated for industrial purposes only, the bus system there is also among the most efficient in the world.

The way I understand it is that if you want to drive a rental in Mexico you have to get Mexican insurance from the rental company before you rent the car....

Honey moon will be in Rosarito and Ensenada, but we will drive through TJ so we can chill there for a day or two. Just get to know that side of MX

I am also thinking of flying and renting car there, I found Tix for $400 on southwest. I am in a budget with only $1000, though, sucks to be a cllege student!

Take a look at The Rosarito Beach Hotel http://www.rosaritob...l.com/index.php On the website check the "SPECIALS"and "COUPONS". They have some good deals sometimes.
It's a great old historic hotel right on the beach. A great place for a honeymoon.
