When I was in Tijuana this weekend on my way out I saw some big buliding with rent signs. Are these apartments?? One building looked like it had many apartments. does anyone know what this area is called and what these go for??

That's kind of vague. There are lots of large apt buildings with vacancies. I'd guess you're speaking of the blue one's in the Zona Rio near Ley ? Somebody here should know about those.

Same here; were they mostly blue? Were you on Centenario by Ley, Pueblo Amigo, Senor Grog's with Diana the Archer in the traffic circle?

I guess you could call them condos in that the apartments are privately owned and rented out; no bldg. landlord. Condo has an up-scale flavor; I think privately owned apartments is a better description.

Yes they were blue, and five or six stores. Others were right next to them close to a big hotel. Just happened to look over and see them as we were leaving.

The big hotel is Pueblo Amigo, the statue of the nude woman with the bow is Diana la Cazadora (Diana the Huntress). It's my 5 year old daughters favorite statue (and she talks to them), but my 14 year old daughter thinks it's gross.

Sorry, misread your post. Yes the sculptor did leave out the string and arrow. Just a nude woman posing with an empty bow. So I guess technically she is neither a huntress nor an archer. Just a model with a big butt.

I always though it odd that this figure is popular thruout Mexico. I think Diana is more from Celtic/Druid histories than Spanish or Native ones.

In Roman mythology, Diana was the virgin goddess of the hunt, the equivalent of the Greek goddess Artemis. Born with her twin brother Apollo on the island of Delos, Diana was the daughter of Jupiter and Latona.

Diana was the perpetually virginal huntress goddess, associated with wild animals and woodlands. She also later became a moon goddess, supplanting Luna, and was an emblem of chastity. Oak groves were especially sacred to her. She was praised for her strength, athletic grace, beauty and hunting skill. Sorry got distracted with Diana. The blue bldgs. are called Infonvit Rio and are mostly 2 bedroom from $250 (rare) to $500 a month depending upon the amenities.

Any thing else you would like to know? Quiet but is in flight path of airport, kids, family, school, stores close.

A general rule for rental property, at least in US, is: monthly rent X 12 months X 10 years equals present value.

Most of the places here are renting for about $400 USD a month so that means about $48,000.

No idea at all if the same is true in Mexico.

Thanks for the info. Now compare the following:
I don't know how long ago infonvits have been in existance, but I know a guy who bought a unit 11 years ago in the Lago area.
He signed a 25 year contract with the cost being about 74,000 pesos.
Don't know what the dollar exchange rate was back then. The 2 bedroom units were new then and valued at 69k pesos with the rest being taxes and 6% financing.
The size is about 50 sq meters plus 14.5 parking space plus 5 patio space, totaling 70.7 square meters. It isn't very pretty but they are on the second of 3 floors with a little bit of a view.
As newer infonovits were built in TJ, they've increasingly nicer in appearance.
The ones in Jibarrito even have ocean views, an upstairs, and a front garden.
I'd like to learn the current going rates. 8)

You use infonovit generically; I thought it was more of a name for where I live. Is it just a term that means say, housing project?

I gather from what you wrote that there are others.

As you say, Infonavit is a govenment term for housing project. There are others, it is not unique to where you live.

Hi all;

Just put a deposit on one of those 2 bedroom Infonovit Rio Apt.s; nicer than the one I am in now and a bit more $$ per month but semi furnished, fridge, stove, blinds, etc.; I like the area and close to the Linea.

Might be looking for a roomie toward the end of April.

Anyone wanna' help me move a few boxes a few hundred feet? I'll buy the beer and food....

Scooby, Are you talking about Torres del Lago? I used to drop off a novias aunt there a lot. Filthy place on the outside.

Riches, I have great excuses these days to get out of moving things, arthritis in the shoulder and hernia in the gut. My moving stuff days are over, if I can't hire someone, it gets left behind.

I'm not sure where Torres del Lago is, but is probably in the Lago region.
I was speaking of Porticos de Lago.
The other Lago has also some highrise type of apt complexes which I think are infonovits.
