Do they have any stores like walmart-home depot, or Sam;s club in or around Tijuana--malls??

There are two costco's in TJ, Sam's club and a home depot. We don't have walmart. I don't know why though since there is one in Mexicali. TJ does have a few malls but with the exception of zona rio they are not comparable to US malls.

If anyone gives a hoot about the people who work at these places, it's just as well there's no Walmart in Tijuana. They treat employees like mierda in the States, and they probably do the same in Mexico. Sam's Club is owned by the same family that owns Walmart. Costco, on the other hand, has competitive prices and is known to give its employees a fair shake.

These are conclusions I've come to after reading dozens of articles about the situation in the United States. Things could be different in Mexico. If anyone knows about the plight of Walmart workers in Mexico, I'm all ears.

They are building a new Wal-Mart on Blvd. Insurgentes. It is supposed to open before the Christmas season, but who knows???

No one makes these people work at Wal-Mart. These people are not slaves. Most are not well educated, many haven't a high school and many other others not even an elementary education. They seem to be happy working there. They are much more helpful and courteous then most people working at Target, Albertson's, Costco, Vons, or Home Depot. If they work enough hours they can participate in the health care and other benefits programs. Fact that so many don't is because most of them work part time. Most are homemakers or retired or students and are covered by some other health care system. A Walmart worker in TJs biggest problem I expect will be the corruption, on all levels, that they will have to deal with just to have a honest job.

The point is, I think the people that work at Wal*Mart are good people, want to work there and don't think they are being taken advantage of. If they didn't want to work there, they would find another job somewhere else. Also, that there seems to be corruption, on all levels in TJ, that they probably have to pay someone off to have a real honest job at all.

So you don't have anything to back this statement, except your particular perception that everybody and all companies in TJ are corrupt. :roll:

Yes! I read about it all over this blog from people that have been living in TJ for years and I see it when I'm there.

You have no idea what life here is like at all.

Is there corruption at some levels? Yes!

Are there some inscrupulous businessmen? Yes!

But guess what? There are plenty of those on the US side as well. The vast majority of people down here are very hard working, ethical and noble. I have lived most of my life in Latin America and find your comments ignorant and offensive.

There is no question that most people are very hard working, ethical and noble people, but they are not the people in-charge with the power. Maybe it's because you have lived most of your life in Latin America that you don't see it everywhere around you. It's just the way it is and you don't notice it.

I think that if you really look at Latin America, you will find that most countries have lots of natural resources (oil, minerals, good farm & ranch land, so much more) and they could really be well to do countries but the corruption throughout makes it so much 2nd. world because only a small number of people keep all the money and the poor have no way to get ahead.

Yes, you find people from the US & Canada going south to retire or live on the cheap or be with their love but look at the flow of traffic and you will see hundreds or thousands going north every day/week, illegally, risking their lives to get away from the repressive corrupt governments and make a living. Like in the US it doesn't matter what party is in power.

You say my comments are ignorant, no, they are the truth, and offensive, only if the truth offends you and I guess it does.

I did see a Sam's Club the other weekend while looking for that Tempoz Nieve place someone mentioned near the girls' school that looked like a Mosque. If you head out Ave de los Heroes and find that girls' school that looks like a Mosque and look for the Tempoz Nieve ice cream shop (it does exist and it was everything whoever posted claimed it to be) you will find your Sam's Club in the same shopping center.

This Friday??? No way. I drove by there a couple of weeks ago and it looked as though it still had a few more months.

Across the street, right around where Foro Tecate and Parque Morelos are, they're building an interavtive children's science musuem called EL TROMPO ( http://www.eltrompo.com). The entire area seems to be experiencing a little economic boom or at least will because all of the important establishments being built around there.

It is offically open but I got word from my neighbors that you would be better off shopping at Calimax or Commercial Mexicana
Anyone who has been to a stateside Walmart will see the differences right away.
The products are the same ones you will find in TJ and the prices are NOT comparible to US Walmarts.
