I've been watching the construction for months from my house up on the hill overlooking this area. I was excited about it until I found out Chili's is one of the restaurants opening. Not that it's that bad, but I can get American chain restaurants in San Diego.

I agree with you and feel the same way about these restaurants like Chili's, Applebees, and TGI Fridays popping up in TJ....but the only TGI Fridays I've ever eaten at are in New York Times Square and in the one in Tijuana on Sanchez Taboada. I've never eaten at the other two.
But really.... VIPS and Sanborn's Cafe are along the same lines as these but they are Mexican chains.

Chili's, Applebees, and TGI Fridays are very popular with locals. They want American food and most can't cross the border to get it.

They can be more expensive than their US counterparts but very fun to chill and hang out with friends.
