i have this fear. i love going to tj but i am so scared to drive there. i haven't gone to rosarito cause i don't want to drive my car and get pulled over. i am very scared. how do i get over this fear? if i can't then i could never move there! help....

Thank you very much. Yah I think I am scared of the drivers. The areas I am familiar with I am not very confident to drive a Honda there. Since Honda's are normally low to the ground I am afraid I would damage my car and it isn't an automatic. The hills are outragous in TJ!! LOL! If I had a big truck I wouldn't feel as scared. Thanks for your tips...I will take them.

I wanted very much to live in Rosarito near the beach. I rented an apartment but thank heavens Mexico has a law that gives you 7 days to change your mind. The apartments near the lovely Rosarito beach area are rather pricey. Other areas of Rosarito are not that appealing. People on the blog had suggested Playas in Tijuana but I had my heart set on Rosarito. Today I am in a very nice apartment in Playas on del Pacifico directly across from the beach watching the ever changing sea from my living room in a very secure building. My desire to live in ROsarito and the reality of living there proved to be a costly adventure and I certainly regret not listening to all the kind bloggers who tried to tell me that Playas was more suitable for my needs.
If any one sees an ad on Craigs list for a 2 bedroom apartment 3 minutes from the beach in ROsarito, 6 ',omites from shopping, gated community, 24 hour security, ;washer dryer hook ups RUN RUN RUN Person advertising is Robert Dossi.
The pictures of the interior of the apartment as shown on Craigs list wer very factual and it looked great.
It is about a six block walk to the gate and then a good half hour of power walking to the beach.....took me, a little old lady,. one hour. The gate is manned sometimes but the guard just waves every one through.....probably 800 residences in the "community". The washer and dryer hook ups consist of a cement laundry tub with one spigot. The exterior of the building is filthy and the whole area is graffitted, abandoned cars and litter.
Shoppiing which exceeded 6 minutes (just the walk ot the gate was more than that) was mainly mom and pop places and a MacDonalds. THe apartment backed up to the main thorough fare with incredible trafific noise through out the night. It was a disaster.
I rented this sight unseen based on the photographs and I wanted to be at the beach. NOt a smart move. The rent was $350 but all the other apartments around owned by the same owner were paying $200 0r $250.
I lost my deposit but I was simply glad to get out of there. The apartment in Playas is so much nicer. My family is of course having a heart attack that I am in Tijuana but once they visit they will be pleased. iI am able to use my USA cell phone. There is a great little shopping area within walking distance and best of all I am out walking every morning on the beach.
Again my apologies to those of you who tried to steer me in the right direction.
I found a wonderful 'concierge" type service which has been absolutely indescribably helpful. They met me in San Diego, picked up ALL of my
belongings I was bringing to Baja, delivered me to the Rosarito Beach
apt. When I realized what I had gotten, came to my rescue. took me apartment shopping, handled the move from the Rosarito Beach apartment to the Playas apartment. Took me shopping for things I needed
handled the phone/DSL installation getting me a really deal. If anyone is coming to Bajaq and needs help, I will be happy to give out their info.
They are not cheap but they are reasonable. I could not have managed all this on my own in any way.

Thank you Mungoanne...it has been our pleasure to assist you in your adventure....I mean endever! You are such a great woman and went through so much! Moving on its own can be so tough and you really had even more things than that to face. Again, I am so glad that you are happy in your place and secure. So many details to work out...finally you can relax and enjoy the ocean, peace be with you.
