I recently stayed at Hotel Zaragoza (two times) while in Tijuana having surgery at Angeles Hospital. I'm a 50-something female traveling solo and felt safe at this hotel. It was in a quieter area near the Jai Alai stadium and close to the major attractions.
I was very satisfied with the hotel and room for the internet price of $45 nightly. Check various websites for good deals; I found the best deal through the hotel website This place is designed for the cost-conscious traveler who spends more $ on experiencing an area rather than sitting in the hotel room. All necessary amenities such as room service, cable TV, hot tap water, A/C and wireless internet connection. English speaking personnel were available and everyone at the hotel was very accommodating.
The La Villa Restaurant serves delicious reasonably priced Mexican cuisine as well as an onsite bar. Secure parking.
I highly recommend this place to those who seek value and a safe location rather than expensive glitz.

It sure has gone downhill in the last few years. Sundays they offer a breakfast buffet. I don't remember the price but it was reasonable.

I've used this hotel and it is very quiet and family run. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a nice place to stay.

I've stayed here a few times for two weeks at a time. Everything I have to say about this hotel is positive minus some of the carpets in the rooms. They can be quite gross. You need to see the room before you commit that's all.

The hotel is located in an extremely central location. It is only two blocks from revolucion yet quiet enough to be able to sleep. Anything you need is just a few blocks away. The staff is very friendly.

*Credit Cards Are Accepted.

I don't know of too many mid range hotels in TJ. This is a decent choice for the budget minded.

Rates are $42 + change during the week and $46 + change for fri sat and sun .

Before I got my place in TJ this was an old standby of mine. I have a love-hate relationship with Hotel Villa de la Zaragoza.

On the plus side:
The rooms are reasonably comfortable and quiet. The rate is affordable.

On the negative side:
They're always "sold out" of lowest priced rooms. There have been problems with clerks selling credit card information to thieves. Parking lot security has been lax and with reports of cars being stolen out of their lot.

Note:
My post is more about how things were than how they are now. I haven't stayed there in the past five years.

I usually prefer the hotels in Zona Rio... Lucerna's my favorite although it's more expensive than most. Years ago, I'd stay in the Fiestas Las Americas which is now Hotel Grand Tijuana. It used to be great, but it is showing its age.
