Anybody been to the this bar? Dress code?

I met a lady in Plaza Fiesta last Saturday night and we really hit it off well. I asked to see her again so she choose this place. Said it is over by Grand Hotel. I found the little snippet below about the place. I am meeting her tonight so I wanted to know about the dress code. I will write up a review of this place after the date.

The funny thing is when she texted me the name of the place she called it Pup de la chapu.

Well the internet is a wonderfull thing. I found pictures of people hanging out in this bar so now I know the dress code. Looks like I will be the only gringo in there which is not a bad thing.

I have been Pub de La Chapu once since its near my apartment. Its an Irish style pub.

I ways there on a Saturday evening. It struck me as a little pretentious and snooty. Crowd was mostly in their 30s and late twenties.

Irish pubs the world over are supposed to be friendly and relaxed. This place place was the opposite.

So this place is in plaza Sonora along the back wall. The taxi libre guy and myself had a little trouble finding it becuase there was no signage out front along the street. By looking at the pictures i figured it looked like a chill place. It is 8:30pm I am about to enter and the guy at the door tells me I have to take off my baseball cap. He takes it and I walk in the bar. On a side note all thru the night I am thinking when i leave I better get my dam hat back otherwise the fight is on

The place is really small maybe 20 tables. They have beer signage all over as decorations. The have a bunch tables reserved for the high rollers I guess so I pick a table so there is enough room for HK, the Beauty his date and the Beast her best friend.

It is a video bar that has TV's all over playing music videos from the 70s, 80s and 90s. They showed videos from Madonna to AC/DC to The Cure to Van Halen to Cindy Lauper to U2 etc. It was kind of fun to see the viedeos and re-live where I was in my life at that time. The Beuaty and The Beast enjoyed the videos as well.

Around 10pm or 10:30pm the bar is packed but since it is so small I would say there is 50 mexicans and 1 gringo HK. There was a mix of small tables of 2 or 3 guys and other tables with 2 or 3 girls and couples. I thought some of the girls were very pretty. The odd thing was that everyone kept to their own tables. None of the guys tried to approach the girls tables. As Otay pointed out everyone seemed to be in there own clicks and there was no crossing over. I was hoping that someone would approach the Beast and talk with her so I could spend more time with the Beauty but no such luck.

We hung out from 8:30 to midnight.

HK had 5 Tecate Lights
Beauty had 1 Margarita, 1 glass of wine and 1 bottle of water
Beast had 2 Bohemias, 1 glass of wine and 1 bottle of water

The bill was about 530 pesos.

I enjoyed watching the videos. But this is not a pick up joint since everyone stays to their own table.

The date went well with the Beauty............but I don't care much for her best friend the Beast.

The Beast made what I think was a dumb comment to me when I first met them both in Sontano Suizo last Saturday. The Beast made a few more dumb comments to me again tonight which pissed me off a little bit but I bite my tongue and I did not tell her to shut up out of respect for Beauty.

The Beauty is a shy, sweet, respectfull, caring, affectionate women.
The Beast is a blunt, know-it-all, oppionated, semi pain in HK's ass

I figured it would take me 5 or 6 dates with Beauty and the Beast before the Beauty would go out with me without the Beast. Well last night I was pleastantly surprised when the Beast went to powder her nose the Beauty leans over to me and says next time we got out alone without the Beast. With that comment all I could do was Cha Ching This was the reason why I did not lay into the Beast when I thought she was being disrespectfull to me.

I think the Beast is jealous that I am somehow stealing away Beauty from her. Beauty and I have a wonderfull conection which I guess is threatening the Beast so the Beast is taking some jabs at me.

Beauty had asked me if I could bring a friend for the Beast so we would not have to entertain the Beast during our date. I thought about it little bit but I said all my friends were busy because I really did not want to subject them to the Beast. I am glad I did that after the few comments she made to me last night. She can go fin her own dates.

Beauty left today for a 2 or 3 week vacation in Nayarit so date number dos will not happen for awhile.........I am hoping sin the Beast!

The "Beast" haha...thats why you need a wingman! ...just get someone prepared for the challenge or owes you a favor!
It sounds like you held your own and now you will get your "alone" date. I was wondering too, did you ever get your hat back?
Maybe she is such a Beast because she cannot get a date.....rather than cannot get a date because she is such a Beast.

I am being a little mean calling her friend the beast but I was just trying to liven up my review by using those names. I am not sure she even knows a few things she said bothered me a little bit since I did not say anything. They have been best friends for 14 years.

I will give an example of one of the comments that I thought was rude that the beast made to me. After the bar the beast was hungry so we went to a taco stand nearby. I do not like to drink caffeine drinks like coffee, Coke etc. I love orange soda like Sunkist but in TJ i get Fanta Naranja. So we all order our food and drinks. The laldy brings the beauty a Coke, the beast Horchata and HK a Fanta Naranja. The beast looks at me square in the eyes and says Fanta Naranja is for ninos and she was not joking around. She said you should be drinking Coke it is a adult drink. I was schocked at her comment and her tone. She was not joking around with me because her face was serious and she never smiled. I bite down hard on my tongue to not lash out since I knew I would not have to spend too much time with her in the future. Beauty must have seen the expression on my face or thought it was a rude comment as well. The nice thing was when the beast made the comment to me the beauty did not miss a beat and said to the beast Horchata is for ninas. The beast said no it is not. I was glad the beauty put a dig in on her friend so it made me feel a little better.


Yes I did get my hat back. It was sitting on a shelf when I walked out of the bar. I was expecting to have to ask for it and them say what hat, we have no hat.

I just have to admit that I am a sucker for all of those fruit flavored sodas too! Sunkist, Fanta,Welches, Hansens, etc.
Does anyone remember Peach Nehi? Man, what a delicious soda...like biting into a fresh peach, especially when ice cold.
One of my favorite sodas is Gingerale, something that is nearly impossible to find in TJ.
Thanks for sharing, it was fun to relate to, I'm just happy that it all turned out in the end. Obviously she was either an ignorant person or had it out for you to make such a ridiculous comment.

I think she is/was jealous because her friend digs me. Since they are best friends she probably feels threatened that I am going to steal her away which is not my intention. I have been nothing but nice to friend the two times I have hung out with both of them.
