So i got a question. I know sending letters and stuff is almost non-existent. But how would you send a card through the mail from the U.S. to a house in T.J.? What is the format, exmaple:

John
123 pine st.
timbuckto, colorado 90382

^that would be if we were in the U.S.

What about if we are in T.J.?? How would it look like? Thanks for you help....

I have no idea.

When I run around zona rio I see public mail boxes but I have never seen anyone drop off anything in them or see anyone pick anything up.

I have a friend who sends stuff to friends in Guad. & Mexico City via either DHL or Fed Ex.

It takes about 3 weeks to receive a letter from another country to this country, Mexico. The reason from what i've learned, is that all mail goes to Mexico City first. So if mailing from the USA, just look at the mail you receive already here(Cablemas, Luz,ect..), just add Baja California, Mexico.

Don't have anything that is the only copy,of value or tell anything about your solvency in the mail
The banks will send you a statement(because its easier for them)but when asks not to send the mail they understands and will hold it for you at the local branch the problem with that if you have any money, the tellers sell the info to who ever? "SCARY", in a country of kidnappings!
They don't talk about it much because like the USA fiat money is king and if you don't deposit out of fear they can't leverage
The problem is your mail can look like a meal for someone who is hungry,

Bottom Line don't send anything important in the mail, not even a invite to your kids birthday party unless you want them to think no one likes them
Shipping and a signature is the only way to go.

Reference to above.
Our family sold a house we deposited the money in a Mexican Bank, until the new one was finished.
What followed surprised us until we thought about it
1. all kinds of calls from other banks and investors, even bankers that wouldn't know
1.a. I investigated and discovered that a manager from the original bank had taken our name & info with him to the new job!

2.Basic threats to our children if we didn't pay protection now I don't know if that was from the banks or postal.....................or just bad luck.

3.If you never get a bill in the mail from Telnor or Cablemas and say I didn't get a bill they will point out in their contract that you owe even if you don't get the mail. They all know the mail gets stolen.

The Mexican postal system is one thing Fox didn't reform after he became president and neither has the current administration. Its still inefficient, not trustworty, and basically worthless. That's why unlike in the states, private courrier services are allowed to deliver first class mail.
