I have had my car at the shop for over 3 weeks now and I have been doing more shoping in TJ sicne I have no wheels.

I have been buying Lala yogurt and it is very runny compared to its American version. I prefer the thicker more creamy yogurt I buy in SD.

I have been buying no fat milk (I do not remember which brand but it has a green label in Ley) and it just tastes a little funny compared to skim milk I buy in SD.

Nothing wrong with the Mexican versions but I prefer the US version.

I can't wait to get my car back so I can stock up on my favorite things.

What you have noticed is the Dairy Cartel in Mexico what they do that I know of is they kind of keep it warmer.
It is in their interest to keep the refrigeration down,
1.Makes them money in electric savings
2.Makes them money because it doesn't last as long (the milk from the USA stays fresh 2 3 times longer)

I don't know if they process it differently, but I suspect they do.

Have a friend that brings food and clothing to the orphanages.
At the boarder they need a letter signed from a nun when they bring food stuff they still have to pay a tax.
WHEN IT COMES TO DAIRY PRODUCT NO WAY can you import it.
at least you couldn't I know they kind of gave up trying.
I mean we are talking about kids that don't have anyone to look out for them!!

So If you can get dairy on the other side cool for you.
Cheaper safer.

have you tried the one that comes with a yellow label? ( sorry, but I don't remember the name of it). it is really creamy it is enhance with soy

I will look for it this weekend. I will not have my car for another week it seems. As long as there is fruit in the yogurt then I will try it.

I'm not a big fan of the yogurt here either. When we moved down here, one of my husband's employees who was born and raised in TJ told him, "Bon't buy milk there! I didn't know what milk tasted like until I moved to San Diego!" :lol He thinks they water it down, but who knows?

the name is "protileche" at $36.00 a gallon. I believe it is 2% fat.
Also do not even bother to buy cottage cheese as you probably throw it away after you taste it,
cheese on the other hand is really good.

Personally I love Lala yogurt, especially the strawberry. My description of it is "more creamy" as opposed to "runny". However, it only comes in pint-size, and when I just want just a small cup-size yogurt, I buy the Jersey brand instead, which is a lot thicker. My favorite flavors are the fresa (strawberry) and coco con piña (pineapple coconut).

I've noticed there are a variety of brands of yogurt at the various supermarket chains, so you might want to experiment with some of the others as well.

I think Lava products are more different in taste and texture than what Gringos are typically accustomed to consuming. You might try Yoplait yogurt as it seems similar to its US counterpart. I'd suggest Jersey milk if Lava's milk seems a little different than what you're used to drinking.

A positive thing about Mexican dairy is that the sale of raw cheese and milk is allowed and left at to the judgment of the consumer. There is some wonderful cheese if you know where to look.
