Italian. I have three that I recommend:
1. Vittorio's at the corner of Agua Caliente and Calle Ocho. My favorite dish is linguini arrabiatta, a spicy pasta with shrimp.
2. There's a Italian place in the strip mall behind the Pemex and AM/PM on Agua Caliente just south of town. It's name is something Giornio I believe. Nice ambience like a good Italian trattoria
3. For a quick pizza, the little Pizza place in Plaza Rio behind Comercial Mexicana is good, and their salad isn't bad either. It's small and sometimes full.

Steakhouse.

In the same strip mall behind the Pemex on Agua Caliente is Sajuaro Steakhouse. One of the best porterhouses I've had including tortillas, baked potato, and frijoles al charro for like 110 pesos! very tasty. There used to be a Nopali's (Sp?) in the same mall but it shut down.

Breakfast.

Nido's in Rosarito. Eggs, frijoles, papas, and tortillas for about 50 pesos. Fresh squeezed OJ is available as well. Nice rustic atmosphere just up the highway from the HOtel Rosarito.

This may be hard to believe, but Tijuana Tilly's on Revolucion has excellent breakfast and prices. Does not open until 9am though. I am a great eater, and I am under $5 every time.

New York Pizza on 536 Brasil in la Cacho is great for Italian. It is more of a pizza place. Lasagna is 46 pesos and comes with a salad. Viottorio's is a bit better on the lasagna, but nearly three times the price. Tony, the owner, is a New Yorker, and is well liked by his clients. I think he is closed Sunday and Monday and any time he feels like it, but my circle of friends love it.

Tacos: I like La Chuleta on 5th and Martinez. They sell much more including breakfast. Open until midnight I believe.

Feel like American? If you are like me, then you cross sometimes just to eat.

Fridays: Not on the menu is chicken fried chicken: basically Country fried chicken: Breaded chicken covered in a gravy, mashed potatoes(best I have had in TJ), and an ear of corn split in half. smile.gif

Also I see a new Chili's is opening on Paseo de Los Heroes.

This plaza has good restaurants, of which my favorite is Baja Burger. The Nopali's always looked empty, not surprised they closed.

Tamale Inn in Rosarito best breakfast. American style food. Excellent and cheap.
Thats Amore In Rosarito is like eating in Italy. Great food.
No great steakhouse or chinese food found in Rosarito yet.
Best Tacos at "las Cabos" (across from Red Cross Thrift Shop) .

Thanks for the tips on good Rosarito eating. Is Tamale Inn that much better than Nido's?

I look forward to sampling both the Tamale Inn and That's Amore when Claudia and I are both back in TJ

You're a little off. It's at 9th & Revolución.

Vittorio's has the best fresh pasta in town. Their lunch specials that run until 3 pm are better-priced, including the lasagna combo. The lasagna is only about 1/4 less the size as the dinner-size serving and about 40 pesos less.

Y'know, you're right. I so seldom went into downtown for anything except Vittorio's and the Hospital Piedad a Calle Tres across from the park that I forgot Agua Caliente changed to Revolucion.

I understand that the owner of Vittorio's is actually an Italian lady who lives on the other side and uses recipes that her parents brought over from Italy. Don't know if either is true but it makes for a nice story. My wife used that think that Giuseppe's up by Agua Caliente and Guanajuato was the bees knees until I took her to Vittorio's. Also Gino's Pizza in Plaza Rio is not bad for a quick cheap meal. And I already mentioned that restaurant in the AM/PM plaza beyond the Pemex where one of the Nopali's used to be. All of those beat Giuseppi's hands down.

I am not a big fan of Nidos.  I think they charge to much.  You will enjoy Tamale Inn and Thats Amore. Have a good visit.

Baja Burger now has a second location and bigger. It is on Diaz Ordaz in La Benton Plaza, which is near the intersection of O'Higgins.

Yes, the owner of Vitorrio's is an Italian-American woman married to a Mexican (Sr. Valenzuela). They have an adult son who was born in Tj but who now lives in LA.

Giuseppe's has good breakfasts, but I never cared much for their pasta dishes or tomato/spaghetti sauce.

I'm not much of a drinker. I take my eating very serious though.
