So is anyone going to This years festival? I think it is between Feb. 11-16? I am going for the first time ever. Wife, son, and I. First time for us. What is there to do? What can i expect? What are your experiences? Any recommendations. We also want to check out "La Bufadora". Your comments/suggestions are appreciated....

laugh.gif Mardi Gras in Ensenada - My husband and I have been several times and we have always had a lot of fun. There is music everywhere, a parade on Sat, Sun and on Tue - it is suppose to start at 2pm but we have never seen it be on time. There are confetti eggs, good food, lots of people, a carnavel with rides for kids and some adults......some people dress in costume.

Fat Tuesday is the day that most of the people drink a little too much so I probably wouldn't take my kids to the parade on that day but the weekend will be filled with families. There are two things to be aware of 1.) parking is usaully hard so pick some place safe in a parking lot that you pay for and you won't be sorry. And 2.) Coming north through the toll on the couta is a bear. The military check point is very close to the north side of the toll booth so it backs up. It moves slowly, you just need to be patient.

Sorry to leave you guys hanging. Must of thought i stayed over there...lol. Anyway. We went on saturday morning. And like stated above, the toll both arriving at Ensenada was brutal. Military check point, plus the toll. Took about 45 mins. to get through that. Then you arrive at Ensenada. Again brutal. Traffic. People trying to get through. They need to learn how to do traffic control much better. That took another 30 mins. We parked in a secured parking lot. (don't know if that is possible in Mexico). Made our way to the main street where the parade would take place. We were informed that the parade would start in about 40 mins. So we walked around to see all the shops, and stands.

But like stated above the parade started about an hour late. But once started it was fun. Long parade as well. School bands, classic cars, muscle cars, confetii flying around, egg with confetii, beeds, etc. etc. etc. After the parade had passed us, we did not follow. We wanted to go see la bufadora, so we made our way back to the truck and headed south. It started to get dark. Having never been there we could only hope that they had lights at this place to see la bufadora at night. To our dissapointment no lights are there. All the shops we closed, street was empty, but i was able to drive the truck all the way to the point. Luckily i had a hand held spot light in the truck. So we got off and walked and saw some waves crashing. At first i was like "ok this is cool, but where is the part where the water shoots up"? It wasn't until i point the light in the other direction that i saw some steps, and the pathway continue. So wife and i decided to head down the steps. We go down a couple of steps and the path makes a right turn. I didn't have time to shine the light in that direction when we hear this roar, like a whale. My wife jumped, scared, offgaurd. So i shine the light in the direction of the roar, and we understood where we were.

We didn't get too close to the edge because i have never been there and i don't want to be thrown off the cliff. But what we were able to see with the light we had was awesome. Something both of us have never seen. We plan on making another trip in the future, but obviously going to la bufadora first. This place must look great on a nice clear day. Though that night you were able to see all the stars. So thats a plus. lol.

Sorry to make this post so long. But, next time we go to Ensenada, it will be on a regular weekend, with not so many tourist. But the trip was good. And i do recommend visiting....

Mardi Gras must be the only time Enseneda gets tourists. It has been dead lately. I've been there about a dozen times and it is not quite dead as Rosarito but almost.

It's pretty busy during the Rosarito-Ensenada bike rides.
