Last trip over, coming from San DIego, in order to avoid any wait time crossing over, we drove the scenic road out to Tecate, crossed over there, then took the toll road from Tecate to Mexicali.

Coming into Mexicali from in that direction was unfamiliar to me and it took more time to find the hotel. I had left my Mexicali map at home.

Also took the same way back to avoid the Sunday traffic crossing back into the US.

The toll road between Tecate and Mexicali is well-maintained, but the number of wrecked cars visible over the sides of the steep ravines and mountainsides is a reminder that careful driving is essential.
Mucho gusto!

I forget the name of the mountains around there, Rumorso? But yes many cars have flew and i mean literally off the side of the roads and if you stop you can see many of them scattered around. For some reason they think it is the Daytona 500 in that area. Please be carefull especially at night.

Yes, they would push crashed cars overboard. There were four lanes of traffic volume trying to operate on a two lane road. I think the old road is under the downhill side. That taco shop near the summit might be able to tell you a few wild and woolly stories.

It's Rumorosa, milky.
Which is also the name of the town at the top of the mountains (or right before descending).
BTW, if you feel hungry when traveling through Rumorosa, stop by Tacos Lalo for some "tacos al vapor" ...they're great.
saludos, mike
