I always found this place to be a little expensive and the last time I was there was 5 years ago in Zona Rio. I visited the Otay location which used to be a Mama Mia pizza joint.

A lot of the prices are around 55 to 75 pesos a Torta which is the highest prices I have ever scene for a torta both in the USA and in Mexico. But the Cubano sandwich caught my eye. I haven't eaten one of these it at least 10 years.
This was the highest priced item but I had to have it. They have value tortas as well for around 20 peso. They offered two of them and I ordered that as well. It was a chicken and cream torta.

The Cubano was very good and even though I think I paid 20 pesos more than I should it was a good sandwich.

Most Torta shops around Baja charge between 30 to 50 pesos for a Torta.

I like this chain and have eaten at in the one in Otay a couple times.

I found their tortas better and cheaper than Ricardos, a restaurant chain like Sanborns. Many say Ricardos has the best Torta in Tijuana.

La Torta Plaza is good if you like clean, well-maintained shop. smile.gif

This place just lowered their prices by around 15 percent. They had a weird promotion which brought me back. I was handed a flier for 4 tortas and a soda for 11 dollars which was a good deal until I saw they lowered those tortas in the special and they were like 26 pesos each so you were saving less than a buck on the whole deal sad.gif

I have noticed that several places I frequent have made some adjustments downward in pricing.

Signs of the times...

Its funny a few years ago they would have raised their prices in bad times and now they are dropping them. It's a good sign hopefully they will get more business and everyone is happy

This places makes good tortas but I agree its more money. Last week I went to a chicken place downtown TJ and they were still giving 14 to 1 when most were around 13 to 1 or less.

I have seen a few shrewd merchants in various parts of the northern peninsula put a big sign in their window announcing 15:1 It is a very smart ploy on their part and if I had a small store, bar or restaurant, I would do the exact same thing. Rather than have a sale, drop prices or spend lots on advertising, just use a generous exchange rate. I know of a little side of the road taco stand in San Quintin where the guy has a sign out announcing the 15:1 rate that is almost as big as his cart.

Guess where all the Gringos stop who are driving through town on their way north / south?

Smart...

Hi George,

First of all, thanks for including us in your list. We closed the Otay location but Macroplaza, Plaza Rio, 5 y 10 and Plaza Carrousel are still open, and will be opening a new one in Galerias Hipodromo in November. You can still order from Otay to the Macroplaza location, the phone number is still the same one we had in Otay 623-44-55. About our prices, the flyer you got was for delivery, and our delivery promos are diffrenet than if you eat in. Our menu prices have been the same for the past 2 and a half years, and we intend on keeping them that way as long as we can.
We just launched a new special for these economic times, our Torta de Milanesa (breaded beef) is 2x1 Monday thru Friday all day, that is 2 for $45 pesos. You should try them. As for the Cubana its price is higher because of its size and all the ingredients that go in to it . We´ve been around for 22 years and never compromise quality, like everybody we have had our ups and downs over the years, but I can assure you that for the past 2 years we have been finding ways to better our Tortas and will continue to do. If you have any other comments or sugestions, they will be taken very seriously and apreciatted.

We will be waiting to serve you soon,

Your friends from Torta Plaza.

I had a cuban torta a few weeks ago in Chula Vista and it was terrible! Your Cuban tortas are pretty dam tasty. I did try the specail price tortas before you guys left Otay and they were great for the price.

I ate at the Torta resturant in Plaza Rio last night. This was my 2nd torta that I have ever had and both have been from this place. I have to say the torta is very disappointing from this place. Way too much bread and thin slivers of meat. I don't know do I kiss off the torta forever or are they any better elsewhere.
