I wasnt sure where to post this, or to even post it, but I figured with as much car break-ins it should come in handy to a few people.
Ok - So I have a 79' International Scout II (jeep type vehicle). I took the hard top off and installed a full soft top. It had a stereo in the glove box with no lock and it did not take long for the bad guys to take possesion. They took the stereo and front speakers that were actually surround sound home speakers. The rear speakers they could not get because the roll bar blocked them from pulling them out (good double job) for the roll bar. So I figured I dont want to cruise around in the Scout with no music.
I figured their had to be a way to play my IPOD with my speakers that way I can just take the IPOD in and out without having to deal with a stereo getting ripped off again. So I bought a 200Watt amplifier off craigslist ($20), got 8 gauge wire off a stereo installation place in TJ ($8) and got an RCA to headphone adapter to plug the IPOD straight to the amp from radio shack($8) and went to work. I took off my drivers side seat, welded the amp to the bottom that way they cant steal it. they would have to take the seat off and try to un-weld the amp. I ran all wires to amp. . Ran the IPOD adapter to center console. The outcome is a sweet system. I can now listen to music via my IPOD with no need for a stereo. The only audio system they would want cannot be taken off easily. Amp is welded to floor, speakers protected by roll bar and IPOD in my pocket. It acutally sounds better and louder than the old stereo. ha ha ha.

Sounds like a good set up.

It would nice if there was a stereo shop that would do a custom job like that.

Very resourceful, sucks you have to do that but you gotta do what you gotta do.

You could probably just as easily hook up an AM/FM radio to the headphone jack if you ever want to listen to regular radio.

have any pics of the scout? My brother is working on one as a project.

I do have pic's, but they are to big to post and I dont know how to reduce the size. It still in the workings though.
