Surprised that no one has posted about this place. One of the best restaurants in TJ. Right across the street from the Grand Hotel.

Great food. Good prices (especially if you share - the portions are huge so keep this in mind). Steak of course is their speciality - but everything they serve is great.

Salads are especially good. Maybe 6 different types, served in a large bowl to share.

Currently, you can get a 400g filet mignon for < $190 pesos. Less than $15 US at the current exchange rate. This is about 1 pound. Enough for 2 people. Filete mignon for $7.5 per person ?? Steak is imported from the midwestern United States. Mesquite charcoal grilled. You can get this served several ways:

Whole Cut
Butterflied (Basically opened up and 1/2 as thick - easier for the cook)
Medallions (4 of them)

They also have filet 600g and 800g for 3 or 4 people.

Anyway, worth checking out. Very good.

On Blvd. Agua Caliente? I never knew there were any decent eateries on that street..

Is it upscale?

yes, Blvd. Agua Caliente - on the left side of the street while headed to the East. Directly across from the Grand Hotel.

It's a large family restaurant. Nice, but not over the top. Full bar. Lots of big families here, business people, couples, etc.

I've been to this place maybe 40 times... it's very good.

I wrote about this place, elsewhere, in another earlier post 3 years ago. Previously, this location was the Restaurant California,( a smorgasbord affair, sort of an improvement on what Sizzler offers.). If your on Atkins, party hardy, and bring a doggie bag or two. Pricing way reasonable, down the street from Bob's Big Boy where the local movers and shakers go - go figure. Avoid the Italian fare, stick with the meat dishes and salads - seafood is excellent too.

That's not a real Bob's Big Boy... is it? Has anyone ever been to the "Big Boys" restaurant.

I was going to go this saturday, but was skeptical. I didn't want to give my hopes up, since i have read nothing on that restaurant on these boards. But i might try it out this weekend coming up just to give a review....

I have never gone either, but several years ago, the L.A. Times had an article about politics in Tijuana, and it seems that Bob's Big Boy is the watering hole of choice for the local movers and shakers, and critically positioned people from the State and Federal Governement go there as well to shape the political landscape in an informal setting. In DF, many well healed parochial Chilangos consider going to McDonalds a major event, maybe its because BBB inspired the Big Mac - who knew. Personally, I am looking for that elusive TJ falafel stand, but I doubt I will find one.

We'll stop riding the Fonda Argentina's thread and I'll give the Big Boy it's own.

Well,FA has better decor than Bob's Big Boy. Also, FA attracts a slightly more upscale crowd than does "el Big". Its apears clean, and has a respectably sized clientele at any given time.

I also like their wine list but I sincerely wish that at least one Argentine venue would offer empanadas al horno. The ones here that I have seen are fried and my personal favorites are the oven baked variety...

I wish that just one Argentine venue would sell Argentine (or Uruguayan, the Asado de Tira is an Uruguayan dish, not Argentine.) beer. And I wish Pampas would sell Brazilian beer...

I ate here yesterday afternoon with the novia. We ordered a ceasar salad (80 pesos) and the rib eye (450 pesos) to share (the portions are huge). The salad was really tasty. I love meat but the rib eye was fatty and greasy. It tasted good but just a little too greasy for me. Once we were done eating we felt like sloths. We each ordered two soft drinks. Bill was 594 pesos. I am not sure if I would go back for the greasy rib eye maybe to try a different cut of meat.

After we ate we went to check out gallerias hippodromo (sp). Nice place but most of the stores sell expensive clothes which was a turnoff to the novia (which was a good sign). We will come back to check out a movie at the new Cinepolis.

jajajaja. It depends on what week you talk to me. This girl has made me dinner two nights in a row. Tonight will be number 3. Dinner was really good too. As far as my Mexican novia experiences she has outshined them all so far. Right now she is a keeper but time will tell.

There is nothing cheap in those cheap bars you come to find out.
