I haven't checked the current rent scene in San Diego for quite some time but I spoke with someone who said their rent has gone up 30 percent in the past 2 years and the owner of the complex has defaulted and he needs to move out.
So I helped him find a place down here for half his rent and he is now living close to the Agua Caliente race track for $650 for a 3 bedroom house.

I looked into the old place I lived in Chula Vista and just the rent of a 1 bedroom has gone up over 100 dollars in the past 16 months. That makes a 1 bedroom over 1k dollars when I first moved there it was $700.00.

I thought the housing crisis would makes the rents decline but it seems to have jacked it up??

People cant afford houses so what do they do? Rent. That drives vacancy down and rent up.

A guy pays his rent (overpriced) on time and think everything is ok. Next thing he knows, the landlord can't pay for the mortgage so EVERYONE has to move out. The disruption in lives due to no fault of your own really sucks. I hope your friend are one of those who find Tijuana's quirks charming. At least I heard that the crossing nowadays aren't as bad as they were a year ago.

Yes Ryu, He was caught by surprise along with the other tenants. The owner never told him he found a letter taped to his door. So far so good I'm trying to get him on the site but he is not much of a forum guy.

During late 1999 to early 2000, I was paying $450 in Shitty Heights for a 1 bedroom.

My buddy in San Francisco is looking there and says it costs $1500 for that amount of space. blink.gif

I wonder how people are able to do it sometimes . . .. .

I know a property owner who rents 1 bedroom apartments in Hillcrest for $1200 a month.

Problem with SD is there no regulation of rent. In LA a landlord can only raise the rent 3% a year.

You would think with the price of houses dropping rent would also drop. The people that are getting foreclosed on are scrambling for places to rent and I believe that is helping keep prices steady.

Way past time to take an Economics class... Doesn't even have to be Micro Economic Theory, just a Econ101 class.

Ever hear about 'Supply and Demand'? Landlords are having a feast with the new meat former home owners. They can dictate whatever rents the market will bear and I would not be surprised if that is not or will not spill over to TJ.

Rent control in SD would be good in MHO; I had my rent in PB go from $365 (1 BR) to $990 in less than two years when a new company bought the property. Like, you want me to pay off your purchase loans on this property??? Adios...

If you must barter your life, make sure you are living.
