We stayed on Ave Revolution a few blocks from Hard Rock and it was horrible!!!!! We were accousted 100 times a day, people seemed shady and slimy, etc etc.. Now, I know some will sya that we shouldnt have stayed there.. BUT we flew in and spoke to a few people and it as recomeneded as a cheap place to stay , but safe...
It seems if you are a Gringo, you cant walk to street without being accousted over and over.,.. I know , in the rest of Mex its the same and even in Acapulco, BUT not near as bad...
Also, the people there seem very Bold, and fast talking... Even my Mexican frind that i went together with...said this..
And the food was rediculously exspensive!!! The "Gringo Price" in TJ seems to be more prevelent than elsewhere..
Sao with all this said.. Did i just not see the right parts of TJ?? Is there a big difrence?
PLEASE let me know what I missed and what you all think of my comments....
I have to say I feel disapointed...
Thanks for the feedback, any and all are appriciated, Because I still need to move to the area, next month, and anything is helpfull!!\\

When i get some time i will go over some things. You stayed in an area that is dependant on gringo dollars so everything is priced higher.

We also went to Buenas Aires to look for a car, and on the way back stopped at a really nice mall (cant remember where exactly)((It was close to Waldos Distribution center) anyway we also went close to the airport, etc etc... I did not get to go to the Playas, or any other place mentiojned before...
I was obviously closer to San Ysudro than Otay , and we didnt go to Otay this time.. The only thing I liked about the SY crossing was the Las Americas Outlet.. My friend and I bought a lot of clothes for him to sell... (I may start that also) and the Trolly was very nice too (although we only used it a short while to go to a Dr's Appoint)
I guess, I will just refer back to older post as to best places to live.... I was want to make sure that they are nothing like the TJ (Centro) that I seen....
Any other help would be great!!
Thanks

I've never seen Hard Rock Cafe in Tijuana have many people. Probably one of the least visited bars there is there.

The taco stands on any corner are a buck, a buck 40 with everything. It's super cheap. Or go to Ricardo's by the Jai Alai. Or drive to Rosarito, or Puerto Nuevo, or Ensenda, or go to CECUT or...

Playas de Tijuana, actually only one playa. There are 3 rutas from Centro, one runs 24 hours. You could either walk from Centro to the border or take a different ruta or bus. There is a bus route from Playas to Buena Vista that stops in Colonia Federal near the San Ysidro crossing.
I stopped in the Hard Rock Cafe a few times. It usually is a safe bet to find a clean restroom as so few customers means it is not often used.

Dude!! after all the advise we gave you you end up in the worst place for a gringo in Tj, if you notice not even locals go there and that why you see so many shops closed down, and then you went to Col.Buenos Aires ..hell i would not even buy a coke from that place!!! watch out if you buy a used car it might be stolen either in the states or locally.
Theres a lot of SAFE inexpensive places to stay for a few days in a better area then were you stayed,my offer is still there.

the food cost compare to US is not that much cheaper.
cost of utilities are about same or some times more because of insurlation.
your moving into another country where your rights are different than living in US..
so, if you do not mind dealing with infastructure of tijuana, how it works, than you will be OK..
i will tell you one thing, if these guys had the money to pay for rent in SD, most of them will move back to US...
its all about trading cost of living verses inconviences of every day life of TJ..

As though there are no inconveniences in living in the US. Whatta crock, drchoi. Personally, I like the different pace of life and the value placed on family that exists better in Mexico than the US. You can find whatever you chose to find in Tijuana. Not everyone there is there because certain things are cheaper. As far as food - depends on what you want and how much you want to buy. Personally, I find shopping every day or so a much better way to buy groceries than buying a week to two weeks at a time as is routinely done in the US. Much fresher that way - and done in a lot of other countries. and that is an expensive way to shop for groceries in the US - much more so than in Tijuana. Yes, the infrastructure needs improvement, but so does University (pothole) Avenue. Water pipes bursting almost weekly and so on. Right here in the good old USA, City of San Diego. Further, our rights, such as they are, are being eroded daily by the administration of this country. who are you trying to kid? j.

pot holes, every city has pot holes, every city has pipes bursting, every city has its own problems, every goverment has its own unique problems.
so, some people love tijuana and mexican family life, so do some americans love their own city and their family life
do you guys agree with tijuana offers more hassle free and convencies when going shopping, having kids attand school, less crime, drinking water. sending mail, paying bills, buying a house, buying a car, getting stopped by cops for driving with california plates, buying stuff other than food..ect..
many item you buy cost more in TJ than US...many guys live in tj not because of cost of housing...lol
read the lates news papers why wealthy mexican business owners are leaving tj to chula vista and other us boarder communities...lol

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions of Baja and of course we welcome all points.
I had a friend from work ask me to help move down here. He is single late 20's and is from Arizona. We got him a place in off Agua Caliente and he lived down here for 3 months.
His biggest problem was the border wait and being homesick, he didn't have satellite but cablemas and he doesn't speak a lick of Spanish. He moved back to the US and back to Arizona, the rents in San Diego were too much for him. He was sharing a place for $700 a month and paid 450 a month in Mexico but in the end the crossing was too much of an inconvenience for him. The owner of his apartment lived on site and treated him like a son and even invited over for dinner and party's and watched his place while he was gone. He was stopped twice by the police but no problems and no bribes were paid. He said "TJ is nice to visit but I couldn't adjust to the lifestyle here."
Again TJ is not for everyone.

Mexican businessmen and the wealthy class have been leaving Tijuana for many, many years and for a wide variety of causes. Only a fool laughs at himself, drchoi, so laugh heartily. I know people who can afford to live anywhere and one of the places they choose is Tijuana. Put that into the proverbial pipe and have a toke of reality instead of dream inducing weed. Of course, a lot of them prefer other places because of better weather (sub-tropical) and smaller Cities. I would opt for Ensenada way ahead of Tijuana simply because it is smaller and the mountain bike riding closer and much, much better than anything Tijuana can offer. I lived in Guadalajara for a year while on contract. Had my supervisor been a more amiable person, I would have stayed there for much longer. To add to that, I was being paid on the Mexican scale for the job and was well able to keep my head above water at a third of what I make in the US. But here is the real goodie, drchoi, I can now work in US$ and live on pesos when I move. That is the best of both worlds. jim
