Rural Vacation Resort Ranch
Includes: a large expanse of land to walk around and explore, including a dilapidated rope bridge with planks that is a thrill to cross; 2 swimming pools, large trampoline, snack bar, ample area to camp and make a bonfire, barbecue grills, event hall, basketball courts, hiking and bike trails, tennis courts, and a children's play area.
Accommodations: Large 3 bedroom bungalow with all amenities ($150 dollars a night) for up to 8 people, small 2-3 person cabins 20-30 dollars with shared outdoor showers and bathrooms, large rustic cabin complete with kitchen and bathroom and 6 bunk-beds for 8 people $80 dollars (this is right next to one of the pools), a motel with rooms going for $40 a night.
Good points: Once you pay for a stay there, you have complete access to the entire grounds. You can remove dead wood for your campfire. Alcohol is permitted, but NO GLASS containers near the pools. There is ample distance between the cabins and etc, so there is privacy.
How to get there: Take the free highway into Tecate (28 minutes from the end of the urban zone of Tijuana....its not far at all). Once in Tecate, take the free highway Tecate-Ensenada. You will pass the federal police station. 9.5 kilometers from Tecate, you will see a sign that warns of a dangerous curve (Curva Peligrosa 500 Metros). Right before the apex of the dangerous curve, is the entrance to the area. If you go around the curve, you have gone too far. Another good reference is that it is next to Rancho San Lorenzo.
Feel free to ask for directions. The locals are very helpful about that. If you have trouble finding the Ensenada highway in Tecate, ask somebody in one of the business establishments in Tecate. Remember that Tecate doesn't have the urban chaos or downtown tourist hawkers like Tijuana. Relax and be nice.
To make reservations: Contact Cynthia Ochoa or her husband via this phone number. Tel: (664) 681-08-76 You will make arrangements to meet her at the Calimax in front of the Hipodromo in order to pay the $400 peso deposit and receive your receipt. I am not sure if they know English because I conducted everything in Spanish.
My recommendation: Get the $80 rustic cabin. It has a kitchenette, and is removed from all the other cabins, with a pool right in front. It is great for a gathering.
Heck, why don't we have a TijuanaBlog reunion there? The prorated costs would go like this:
Group of 8-
Accommodations: 100 pesos per person (50 pesos up front to reserve the place)
Meat to barbecue, ingredients to make Mexican condiments, other food: 80 pesos per person
Beer and other drinks: 120 pesos per person
Total cost: 300 pesos
