i tried to watch a missed episode of survivor online, and it said it was not available in this country- meaning mexico...
im sure one of you knows how to circumvent this obstacle.

cB I know exactly what you mean, I tried to get free "specials" in various subjects only to be denied because my ISP is coming from Mexico.
Do a goggle on Proxy servers, the best ones are paid services.

I just googled it and I guess it's like saying you have a bridge between your internet in Mexico and the US...this bridge or link makes it as if your internet is directly linked to the US thus you can watch Survivor online...

Am I right or not? Anyone?

If I am, is their a free proxy server out there that one can use? I'll keep searching the net for an answer but if someone here can help it would be appreciated...

A proxy is basically a server you connect to so that any information or requests that you send is redirected from that server so that it looks like everything you do comes from that server and not your computer.

This is actually a great idea to use just for privacy's sake, but be wary of the "honeypot" proxies. Those are proxies setup to collect your IP and surfing habits. :evil:

There are web-based proxies like proxycondom.com and hidemyass.com, but most interactive content will not work on these.

You can download a program called Tor or Vidalia. This will redirect your traffic through a network of confiable proxies, but it can get you blocked from some IRC servers and websites while you are on it. If you use Tor, keep changing your exit server until it indicates that the proxy is "bu.edu". That way you know it is coming from the US.

The paid proxy services are the best, as George Costanza said.

I get around similar obstacles by embedding the target website in an iframe on a site of mine. Not a solution for everyone as you need to have a website to program it into.

There a lot of recommendations on the Internet for this product, I think it will result in your computer having a US IP address.

I have used those services. They are mostly reliable. The only trick for the purpose of the original question is to direct it through a US IP address that will allow interactive content.

Believe it or not...UNIVISION wouldn't let me view streaming video because my IP isn't in the US. I had to explore and work around it.

Getting a free hosting service and working in video through frames or just coding the stream into the website is a good option, as aforementioned by Chiquito. Or even a 6 buck a month hosting service based in the US. Logically that would be the 100% foolproof way. But there are other options. e.g. US proxy servers.....paid or unpaid.

If you can be sure that you can use a US proxy, it will work.

(It doesn't have to be an 'I frame', any frame set up will work and you can make it so the page you want to see is the whole window by setting the other frame to 0)

If you send me the link you want to see that doesn't work I will make you a frame page to watch it from.

Thanks for the info. I am going to get a free webpage just for the purpose of embedding videos that can't be seen otherwise because now and then I can't view some sort of footage, most recently the Univision debates in Spanish. Dealing with proxies can be a pain sometimes.
