My husband has been working in an area behind what looks like some kind of sports staduim. There are so many large houses up there. As you go on up they get even bigger. One even has what looks like a copper gargage door. Does anyone know what this area is called?

There is a colonia there called Hipodromo which incidentally means racetrack. What looks like a stadium is also called Hipodromo which is the dog racing track owned by Jorge Hank Rhon as Caliente. (He also keeps his private zoo there). Other colonias up there are Chapultepec, Colinas de Agua Caliente, etc. Probably the Tijuana equivalent of Beverly Hills.

She could also be talking about the municipal auditorium, but either way it is in the same area as the Hipodromo. I don’t think Hipodromo Agua caliente is even used for dog racing anymore, is it? I thought they had turned it into a futbol (soccer) stadium.

Zunigan, there are several different neighborhoods in that area and they’re all pretty well-to-do. If you go up to the top of those hills, you can get a panoramic view of all of Tijuana, San Diego bay and downtown San Diego off in the horizon. It’s an awesome site. If I didn’t like my place in Playas so much, I would rent one of the inexpensive apartments up there just for the view.

Could also be Estadio Calimax near Insurgentes. There are some nice houses up on a hill near there too.

The Auditorio Municipal is much smaller and I don't think would look like a stadium. But maybe. According to their website they still have live dog races.

I don't think dead dog races would attract many viewers. On the other hand, it might.

Might be popular with the Goth crowd. But I think they are using 'live' as opposed to televised from somewhere else.

...speaking of dead dogs, I see dog carcasses lying on the streets for weeks without anyone doing anything about. Who's responsible for the road kill? Somebody's dropping the ball, is that your job bluejeans? JK

No one. In the US it's usually Animal Control. Tijuana has no counterpart.

Maybe Mexico could hire some of the people going home from AZ to develop some kind of Animal Control. Mexico has lots of money. They just have to get some of the billionaires to give up a little bit.

Or at least someone in the neighborhood could get a shovel, pick up the critter and put it in the trash.

That would be nice but unfortunately that is and probably always will be a common thread in third world countries where less than 1% of the population controls > 80% of the wealth. As we go more to a global economy there will be some redistribution of wealth that will help many of those third world countries. The downside is that a global economy will enevitably bring a global standard of living that will hit the USA in its standard of living. I don't see how it can be avoided.

Actually Tijuana does have a service to pick up road kill. The problem is he has so much territory to cover, this one person can't handle it. A couple of years ago, my wife knew the person responsible, but she hasn't heard from him recently.

Interesting, in my years there I never saw a dead animal picked up. They would simply decay over the weeks and months. I did once see someone burning a dog on the side of the road, very macabre.

Anybody know what the current wealth distribution in the USA is these days ?
Around 1980, it was somethings like the richest 20% owned 80% of all the US wealth.
Of that, 1% had 20% and 2% had 40%.
I know these numbers have changed dramatically since then with the riches becoming ever more concentrated.

I don't think the wealth distribution in the USA is really an issue. Even the poor on welfare in the USA have a much higher standerd of living then the average person in the third world.

I agree that the poor in the US do have a higher standard of living than those in other countries, and that the gap between the poor and the rich is no where near as great as say, Mexico. But you gotta admit…the gap is growing in the USA every year that passes by.
I wouldn’t say it’s not an issue.
