Areas on the hills above the racetrack, Chapultepec, Hipodromo, Colinas de Agua Caliente, etc. Playas is actually several sections. Other than those areas it's hit or miss. Some very nice areas but close to very bad areas. The highest general crime rate is out towards the east in El Florido, Mariano Matamoros, etc.

Gonna try to research crime statistics to see if there is a definitive list. Usually they just give figures for the delegaciones (wards or precincts). The delegacion statistics aren´t too helpful because each one encompasses a wide variety of colonias.

The private gated areas of Villa Fontana are safe and inexpensive too. The only catch is that it isn´t close to San Ysidro. It is 15 minutes to Otay Mesa though.

I just moved to a two bedroom two story house in Villa del Sol for 230 dollars a month. At night the gate to the road is padlocked.

Yes, sections of Florido and Mariano Matamoros are very "cabron". The area close to the cathedral on the curve isn´t too bad, but one best know Spanish (for communicating with neighbors) and have an enclosed place to park their car in any part of that sector.

Yes...its on the other side of the Cerro. There are a few ways to access the area. You can take Blvd. 2000 north from Rosarito and turn onto de las Aguas....you can take Insurgentes until you get to Cucapah...then take Cucapah until you see the entrances to your right.

You can also get to Cucapah through Blvd Industrial at the Teran Teran exit (sign says Matamoros...etc) This is also the route that leads from the Otay Border Crossing.

You can go through Gato Bronco, Plaza Monarca, Ruta Matamoros, turn left before Calimax Mariano matamoros, pass Casablanca, keep going through El Pipila, Turn onto de las Aguas towards the left when you see the tract housing.

Gato Bronco is a trial to get thru, unless they fixed it. For Cucapah go up the hill across the entrance from Parque Morales.

Personal note, I hate traffic. My wife lived in Ampliacion Guaycura off Cucapah before we got married. I hated even visiting the area. But if you don't mind the traffic, no big deal.

Here is a link to the mapquest one for Tijuana. Unfortunately it is out of date, and a lot of the roads out east are labeled incorrectly.

http://www.mapquest....amp;ambiguity=1

At the Sanborns on Revolución and 9th you can purchase a high quality book-map of Tijuana for 20 bucks. The colonias are labeled, and there is an index. Best of allthere is an index for the neighborhoods.

The fold out costs about 8 dollars, but is very cumbersome.

I just found a huge jpeg map of Tijuana that has the colonias labeled. It is better than looking at Mapquest. Still the booklet is the best way to go.

Can this get stickied under general info?

Some of the worst neighborhoods are in that delegación, but there are some good tract areas. Santa Fe is a good section. Parts of Porticos too. El Rubi...etc. Check out the giant jpeg map...its better than mapquest actually.

Yes, its in that zone...but its safe and quiet. Kind of like Villa Fontana. A delegacion is like saying....South Bay or La Jolla..its a good chunk of the city.

Delegación La Mesa which includes many of the prestigous neighborhoods has its nasty sections too.

There is a Mission Santa Fe in San Antonio de los Buenos. It is a newer area in the hills towards Rosarito. There is also a Colonia Santa Fe in another part of town.

I agree with Chiquito, " I hated it too". Washed out roads in the rain, crazy drivers, mucho buses, macho hombres, speed bump where not expected and craters that always move; it's a real ball buster. Spent 4 years going down that goat path called a road. It will tear you and your car up real fast...

Very bad memories and suggest you default to Playas. If we can get rid of the pests it's ( opinion ) the best Tijuana has to offer. Anyone know of a good pest control business ?

San Antonio de los Buenos is a very large delegacion of Tijuana that includes many colonias. The closest point to the San Ysidro crossing is maybe 10 minutes with average traffic. The furthest point taking maybe half an hour.
