Taco stands, taco stands...

Am I the only one who is extremely fond of hot dog stands? They're all the same to me and I'm happy when there's bacon around the hotdog, along with salsa and mayo on it? I usually skip lunch and eat five of these babies for dinner. Yum, so tasty!

Throw away eveyrthiung you have seen in the movies or have heard from friends. Taco stands have some of the best food you will taste in TJ. I have never gotten Monties revenge and these stands are the best deals going. The tourist areas may have 3 for 1 dollar tacos but you will not get much meat on them. Try these instead

My personal favorite is La Chuleta, It is located on 5th St and F martinez.

Their tacos are huge and around 12 pesos each. This is where are the locals go for the best tacos in TJ. They have killer chorizo as well and my favorite is the Adobada which is spicy pork marinated in Orange juice.

They also serve beer here as well

Number 1 Tacos in Tijuana........Barbecoa Francisco Villa....La Paisa

Carne Asada: Meños in Fco. Villa ; Mi Casa over in the airport area.

Tacos de Pescado JR's Centro

Adobada El Gallo Fco Villa

Eat up.

"La Especial" they are at the top of the steps above "La Especial" restaurant on Revolution. They serve them vapor style. This may be the oldest taco stand in Tijuana. They taste the same as when I had them 40 some years ago. I have to go there every now and then as they taste good and they bring back memories.

True enough, declaring the best taquería is like declaring the best panadería -- so many to choose from.

If you come to Colonia Libertad parte baja (that is to say, along Aquiles Serdán), I can recommend the fish tacos at Tacos Alicia at Calle 5a and Playa Azul at Calle 9a along with the tacos varios at SuperTacos at Calle 10 and the birria and adobada tacos at La Once just south of the high school along Calle 11.

Otherwise, downtown, there's La Placita on Revo and ... I'd have to walk the neighborhood to be fair.

About 15 years ago I was getting muffler work done and I looked over and saw a busy taco stand that said "tacos varios". I thought to myself what is a taco varios? After seeing the pots with different fillings it made sense. Everything I tried from that taco stand was delicious. There is a "tacos varios" as you enter Tijuana that is pretty darn good too. When walking across as you pass the yellow cabs, taco stands and sports book, before you cross the cross walk, to your left is a tacos varios. Tacos are a little over a dollar each and they dont skimp on the fillings. Two fill me up.

Best Tacos....Tacos Al Franc on Sanchez Taboada... Huge Al Pastor wheel every night and they go through it all.. Great carne asada, tripa, and suadero...the make their own tortillas right there.....super good, open 4 PM til 4AM

I will have to check out Tacos AL Franc. I asked a Taxi Libre driver the other day and he said they had the best tacos. I ate at Tacos El Gordo twice last week. I did not like their carne asada tacos but their Quesidallas con carne were excellent.

My wife and I spent yesterday in TJ visiting a friend of hers. Went to Tacos El Guero... pretty good tacos there. I had the adobado (my fav) plus 1 cabeza. My wife had cabeza, adobado and tripa (ewww)... everything was fresh and tasty...

I do miss the tacos, since we don't live in TJ anymore.... but we took the motorcycle and the line to cross back only took about 5 min.

Tacos El Guero is located at the south end of Revolution just after the curve where it turns into Aguas Calientes.

Taco Isabel right near my house. They make some very good Adaboda tacos.
You can't miss it. It is the only taco stand next to the border in Otay. Sometimes they have close to 20 people crowding around this stand.

Near the Sentri lane in Otay they have an Island of burrito and tamale vendors and once in a while some great dona vendors.
This is the best deal going. They have 3 ladies running a Burrito stand and when they have their bistek burritos watch out they some them out very fast. 12 pesos or 1 dollar and look how much meat you get.

Good article reviewing 7 of TJ's best taco stands.

http://streetgourmet...nt-7-tacos.html

As for BWHD, well, they vary a lot in quality, I haven't found a really good one in a while. At the risk of blasphemy I actually liked the TJ Dogs at Lucha Libre Tacos on Washington in San Diego the best . Had some pretty good ones in Mexicali too, but the ones in TJ seem to be a the bottom of the pyramid.

Nice article. I guess Tacos El Gordo did not make the cut.

I will have to try some of those taco stands, and post a review here.

They mention Tacos Salceados on Ave. Emita Norte. The San Diego reader also says they are one of the best and people come down all the way from LA.

I am Las Vegas for vacation. Walking the strip yesterday and I see Tacos El Gordo from Tijuana resturant. It is between Encore and the Riveria in a strip mall.

I also saw a Hussongs bar from Ensenada in one of the malls on the strip.

wOW, Tijuana tacos went international.

The Taco stands i like are, tacos de Frank. I know, not a taco stand, but they are good.

But if you want tacos de birria, you gotta try Tacos Arandas. It is a taco stand. Start serving a 8am-till they run out. It is in colonial la cacho, over by the Iguana Bar. They set up right in front of the bar. It's on calle Brasil. I highly recommend them.

You can get you tacos with just birria, or just lengua, or mixed. Also get you tortilla dorrada, or normal, or tortilla enchilado (dipped in sauce), then can dice up jalapenos, or habaneros in you taco. Whatever way you want it, you can have it. But get there early since they run out of lengua quick.

I don't know if they set up all week, since I only eat there on weekend mornings. Guys name is Pablo. Even though there is a crowd, they serve everyone well.
