Or just google "unlock" and your cell phone model. More often than not, you'll find it's a pretty straight forward procedure to unlock your phone.

Be wary of unlocked phones on eBay. I got a v3 Razr from "ZoomCell" and it came shipped with a faulty language pack. I was able to fix that but it still has a tendency to lock out the sim whenever it feels like it.

Im just riding out my tmobile contract to end so I can get a Cricket plan, suppossedly they work 8 miles south of the border,

On high ground you may get more than 8 miles.

I have a Cricket and it really meets my needs. It works in Zona Rio, downtown, etc. (I get coverage all the way to Plaza Carrosole.) The best coverage I've ever had (other than roaming through a Mexican partner).
