Pretty fat tacos varios for the very hungry across from the Lloyd building next to the yellow cab parking area 's entrance.
Usually a good selection there.
They are open quite late and most of the day.
Most tacos varios either open for 8 hours from the morning or early evening.
Cost about 10 pesos.
Also, there are many tamale vendors in that area.

I have lived in the area for several years and my favorite tacos are at Tacos Salceados on Calle Hermita. They have some special sauces that add the most amazing flavor to the tacos and I drive all the way from the Rosarito Beach area just to feed my urge.

It is a bit east from the downtown area most of you go to but it is the only place I know that only serves tacos and has a line of people waiting to get in everyday when they open. My favorite taco is the shrimp and NY steak. They are very busy, clean, a staff of approx 20 and you must be prepared to wait up to 45 minutes for a table at times. But defintely worth it. I have friends who come in from out of town and always insist on including time for tacos on hermitas!

Open 6:00 PM - Midnight
Closed Tuesdays

On 8th between Madero and Revolcion is a little restaurant called Tupios. They have an outdoor window that serves tacos and they have a variety of fillings.

Their tacos are good, although there may be better places. It's a good place when you're downtown and hungry.

biggrin.gif Milky you are right. One of the best Taco stands I ever ate at (La Chuleta) 5th & F. Martinez. Two Tacos and a Coke, all you want to eat, also a tray with sauce and vegies, fills you up. ($3.25 U.S.). The Best

Taco place outside Plaza Fiesta is pretty good in my opinion (not the stands but the one right on the street across from Banorte).

I'm still looking for a good tamale place. Every now and then there's a good tamale guy by agua caliente at the border across from McDonalds. Theres also Rey de Tamal near centro which is an actual restaurant but haven't tried that yet. Surprisingly, Sanbornes (Plaza Rio - por afuera) of all places had really really good tamales.

(bombero)
I had to make an emergency taco run the other night. A friend of mine at work talked about tacos "el pastor/ asadero" all day. By the time I got off work at 1100 at night I had a craving for tacos and headed to tj. I took care of my craving at tacos el gordo by I believe market hidalgo.

There are like 4 or 5 Tacos El Gordos in the US now. It has the same owner as a few of them in TJ.

I've never really seen the attraction to El Gordo...Their tacos always kind of sucked....especially the one on Sanchez Toaboada with Taco Franc starring at you...If Iwas in the states and wanted good street tacos...I'd recommend Porkyland.....good Al pastor....

I like Taco's Franc, but the only problem I have with them is their hours of operation... seems like everytime I drive by, they're closed.

I like Chuleta's for the value... they make nice big tacos and quesadillas. And I also like Taco's El Guero for their flavor.

the guy who makes the tacos at Chuletas can be cheap sometimes in the morning and afternoon as they don't want to use up all thier meats. If you go at night, your taco's get Jumbo sized free of charge.

When I went to La Chuleta (the chop) I would forget how big they are and order 3. I could rarely finish them.

Large and fat tacos varios behind the 11th St/Sanchez Toboada Gigante
across from IFE on the corner of Rio Balsas & Rio Zuchiate.
This popular stand is closed at night.
12 pesos and they pile it on usually.

The BEST taco place in TJ and I haven't gotten sick yet.

it's Tacos el Rey
F martinez and cinco de mayo

Tio and Maria who run it are cool. I think I am addicted to their stand now.
