But are you sure that the receiver on a Mexican landline phone pays extra to receive calls from US phone numbers?? I was not aware of that.

Can someone confirm this to be true or not because this can save me tons of money. Thanks.

I've never seen charges for incomming calls on my Telnor bills, regardless of origination.

My sister in law says when she receives calls from the US on her Telcel cellular the credit goes real fast, but my take is that she doesn't realize tha amount of time she talks.

I know for a fact that telcel cell phone users need to pay extra to receive a call from US telephone numbers. Usually the caller pays the fee to call a cell phone, but since telcel can't bill a caller in the US, they charge the receiver instead.

Seems that my belief is confirmed the Mexican landline owners pay nothing to receive any calls from Mexico the US or elsewhere.

What you say is true, with Telcel the receiver gets charged minutes for any long distance call. From the US or even elsewhere in Mexico. A phone that does not have credit either thru prepaid or a plan can not receive long distance calls. It can only receive local calls dialed with 044-.

Got all the cable installations. We specifically ordered wireless and they said ok in office. Of course after installing the TV, Modem, and Telephone, I ask for the wilre config keys. Tech says they don't have wireless available with the telephony modem. So will have to pick up a wireless router tomorrow when I go to San Diego. Still have the DSL as well, will cancel that next week.

Canceled the DSL, no mention of a contract. Say I have to wait until Monday to disconnect the phone line.

CableMas inspector came by today. We don't show up in his list yet and he was going to disconnect us had I not been here with the receipts.

Customer service is a lose lose situation in Tijuana.

Well since no one is definitely sure that a US phone calling a Mexican house phone is free I decided to test it myself. I used my VoIP phone to call my home phone and damn it works. That was so cool! I think my gf's a little pissed off though because I keep calling her all the time now and she thinks it's her mom or family (no one ever calls me on the TJ phone). Just a big kid with a new toy

But did you get a bill yet? Can you check the current charges online? The Axtel phone they installed here seems to serve for all purposes as a regular phone. It uses a special telephony modem that connects to the TV cable. Then gives out a standard phone line that you can add extensisions to and uses any phone. Also has the ethernet connection for the broadband internet in the same modem. Had to buy an external netgear wireless router to get all the laptops online. Everything seems working fine now. I expect any problems to come up to be human error. When I get the first bill I can sign up to pay online. As long as it's one time authorized payments that will be great, no waiting in lines to pay the bills. If it's autocharged on a certain date I won't sign up, have had problems with that.

Now if I could only pay the water and electric online. (Gas I buy a fill up from the big trucks and pay on the spot, no bill).

Telnor: A Victory! Well sort of. For those of you who read this thread know, last month I paid $200 for the phone bill which although not unheard of, still is not something I'm fond of doing. In addition, they never told me why just said I had to wait for the next bill to find out, fucking Telnor. Anyways, I found out why I had to pay 2000 peso and no it wasn't my girl which I originally thought ran up the phone bill like Chiquito's housekeeper. Listen to this, fucking Telnot made me pay that months bill + the next months bill (this month) and an extra 500 something peso don't know for what which they credit me for. So when I got the bill this month, it said I have a credit of 500+ peso. I officially have NO idea how Telnor calculates what's you owe them now.

That is what she told me, that I had to pay in advance but they wouldn't give me a factura (bill). I told her I wouldn't pay without one so only paid what they could bill. Canceled the DSL last week and they said I had to come back Monday to cancel the phone. Didn't get around to it until today and they were closed for mothers day. Dang.

If you have cablemas, why not use skypein $40 a year for a San Diego phone# and $0.021 a minute charge to call the US, which would eliminate the need for a phone service?

Sometimes it depends on where and when you pay the bill. I have had it happen where I made a payment near the cutoff and it didn't show on my next bill. I pay my mom's bill for her and I just go to a Telnor, punch in her phone number and pay the balance it shows on the screen. I never go by the bill she gets in the mail. I know that it can be frustrating some times. Mexico will always lag behind the US but it is getting better believe it or not. I grew up in Tijuana.
