I've been there, planning for a trip and even make dinner reservations...

And then you get there, have a drink or two, relax and all of a sudden just staying in and ordering room service is sounding pretty good...

It happens.

We've got company down from Nevada & keep talking about all the great restaurants. Morning starts grey, so we hand around with "weekend coffee" (coffee, cream and kahlua). Fog lifts and we go swimming or boogey boarding. Dinner time - no one can move so we either order something delivered or barbecue here.

So they're here for two more nights and we have 4 restaurants we want to try. LOL We'll see if we make one of them tonight. I think "That's Amore!"

Reporting back from That's Amore!:

We had two appetizers - eggplant with orange & yellow peppers and goat cheese with balsamic vinegar - FANTASTIC! & my husband's stand-by favorite Calamari Fritti

Dinner: Friend had linguini with garlic, butter, wine sauce with fresh clams, mussels, octupus & sea bass. Hubby & I split the sea bass special with artichoke hearts with a wonderful sauce (also pasta on the side)

LOTS of drinks...

My friend said it ranks right up there with one of the best Italian meals anywhere, anytime. :-)

A bunch of us tried Vince's last night. Loved it! Great prices and fresh, wonderfully prepared seafood.

Our table had: calamari (REALLY well cooked, cook calamari too long and it gets rubbery - this was perfect), carne asada, grilled shrimp and grilled scallops. And margaritas. And margaritas. And margaritas.

It's on the west side of Benito Juarez, north of El Nido.

We eat at Vinces at least once a week. Its good food and low prices.

Diane: I really appreciate your review of That's Amore. I travel a lot and eat out a lot and have tried Italian restaurants on several different continents and in many major cities. I have commented in the past that I rated this restaurant in the top 5 Italian restaurants I have been to as far as quality of the food. That review has been laughed at by some down here and it gives me some satisfaction to know that I am not alone in giving this quaint little restaurant such high marks...

Thanks BajaGringo. I do love That's Amore!

I keep threatening to start a food blog of restaurants on the Baja. That way I could get a write off on my meals. In real life, I write tax and financial books, so I'm always thinking of ways to take a tax deduction.

SO - another restaurant you've got to try in Rosarito.

BeRaca - I think..... I can't read the writing on the sign! It's just south of Elektra on the same side of the Benito Juarez (east side). It's in a little strip mall facing a side street. The store that faces right on Benito Juarez (from the strip mall) is a closed down Paleteria - La Michoacana. You'll notice the sign that is at the entrance to the parking lot - "Crepes & Coffee & Internet Cafe" That's the place. There is also a Casa de Cambio in the same mall.

Upscale, trendy decor. This would look perfectly in place in San Francisco or NYC. They have crepes, which I haven't tried, and coffee drinks, which I've had plenty of. Tonight my husband and I had a latte (me) and a mocha (him) and chocolate chip cookies (him). We've been a lot and the owner wanted us to try some new cake recipes, so we also got samples of orange pound cake and apple pound cake. Loved the orange, not so much the apple. Total bill: $6.15. Oh, and we stuck around and watched a King Kong movie with the owner. Love the place. You've got to try this!

New to Rosarito and went to the Pancake Republic based on a note I read here and just wanted to say thanks! Just what I needed to start my morning. Nice little joint, and breakfast all day. smile.gif W/ tax meal was less than a large Starbucks, $4.30.

Thanks again!

Went there tonight. The sea bass was amazing! I have to say it’s the best Italian food I’ve had anywhere. It’s a restaurant that deserves the fuss. Looking forward to going back!

Went to Popotla this Monday to eat and go to the beach. The place was crowded due to lots of people having the day off and no school for the kids. We parked on the road going down to the restaurants and the beach, about half way, and walked the rest of the way. Had our meal after looking around. It was good. Grilled fish, shrimp, beers on the water in the sunshine. Good times, but when we finally got back to the car some thieves decided to try and steal it and busted a window and screwed up the door. They ruined a good day with the family. I don't think I'll be going back there any time soon. Too bad since they could use the business. In any case if you are going to Popotla watch out and maybe go on a less busy day so you can park down by the buildings where it might be safer.

Thanks for the heads up. been there a few times, I usually park close to the entrance near the people selling pineapples sp.? and I sometimes see a lady auxiliary police on a quad watching the cars.
ride my bicycle to the beach, always tip a couple of green backs to one of them when they approach to help me back up or to stop taffic to let be go on my way.
never had a problem, sorry to hear about yours.................
