You will be charged 40 Pesos a person to camp. The road turns to dirt as soon as you enter the park, and continues as dirt another ten miles or so to the observatory. The park is at an elevation of 9,000 feet. The camping is wonderful, at night the stars are absolutely incredible.

NOTE: There are NO shower facilities. There is NO store; so make sure to bring lots of everything you need; especially ice. (Or you will be going all the way back to San Telmo.) Dead wood is everywhere, and the last time I was camping up there in May, the rangers came around in the afternoon to our campsite with a chainsaw and cut up a downed tree for us. We had an inferno going all night. Cell phones do not work up there. Bring bug repellent.

Watch your brakes on the way back down; there are some steep grades, and you can burn them up easily.

The only good thing about that form of institutional glorified animal torture that should have been outlawed 50 years ago is when a bull gores a matador to death and/or jumps into the stands to trample on as many barbarian spectators as possible.

Actually the coolest part of the bullfight is when the torero (What is a matador? That is not a part of the bullfighting vocabulary.) does a really good job on his bull, and they cut off BOTH ears AND the tail and present it to him.

I go whenever possible.

Long story, when I got back to the U.S., the California DMV made me give up my DF driving licence because I needed a California license for a job. They absolutely would NOT let me keep both.

Since then, I've been afraid to drive my car in Tijuana because the police there told me I must be using a DF licence to drive. The California police here never bother me over my DF plates and they usually understand when I explain my situation to them.

You should have showed up at the DMV with a photo copy of the license, and a sob story about how the Tijuana police stole the real one. Or just said you had no license at all; all that would have done is resulted in you taking the drive test as well as the written test.

I have three cars and two motorcycles, and am a young, white single type. I am never hassled, except near bars, and then they let me go as soon as they realize that a bribe is not forthcoming. If you are constantly getting hassled, it may not be the police, it may be YOU.
