Yes he was shocked and called me and said WTF!? The way energy is charged is a bit different in the states and the more you use the more they charge per kilowatt or something like that. That's too much money if its true any chance you can post a photo of the due amount? Of course blocking out your private information. Maybe she is getting it confused?

The bill is in landolord's name, so I don't care about the info. I'll make sure she's not getting it confused first. BTW, when is the next party? Wife is going away for a month!!!

Are you sure its not 1k pesos? My bill is normally around 50 or 60 dollars every 2 months. Yes Air conditioner can be expensive. A friend of mine just got his last bill and it was 400 dollars and they run the AC 24/7 along with all kinds of computers and plasma tvs.

if it is really 1k dollars then check into that right away, call your landlord as well and show them the bill.

Yeah, we have a big apt. My wife says the bill says 12,000 pesos for 2 months. Maybe she's getting a decimal point confused but she's mexican and should know how to read it. I'll know when I get home from work tonight...

By the way, that friend's 400 dollars was for TWO months, right?

My first move I brought everything in a large truck and it cost me several hundred dollars to "fix things" at customs. I wrote about my experience in moving to Mexico here:

A Gringo and His Story of Moving to Mexico

When I sold my cabin in Sequoia and moved that furniture down here I just rented a storage unit across the border, unloaded it all there and then moved it across the border one pickup load at a time over a couple days. Never had a single problem. The key is to have a few people in the truck with you as you cross so if you get a red light you will still be under the dollar amount allowed to cross...

I need help moving my stuff across the border.I don't have a truck.... I have all the consulate stuff down, I need a moving company or a rent a truck on either side....

Any recommendations?

No recommendations only a warning about using a mover.  For a mover to do it legally they have to go through Mx Aduana (customs) with a list of what you are bringing.  There will be fees to pay for this.  Some here who have done it can give advice.  There have been several scams involving this as well.

So how does this list and fee work? I'm sure I'll find that all out when I go to the consulate....
