In Topic: In a Hurry: Need to Find a Place in TJ or Rosarito ASAP

25 March 2013 - 12:23 AM

My final days in San Diego were days that were filled with a lot of pressure. My departure from that great city was made in haste. My back was up against the wall on the day that I started this thread. I had a lot of time to find a new residence but ultimately I waited too late to start looking for a new place to live. I found a rental in Tijuana, in the Otay area. There are a lot of homeless dogs that roam free in my new neighborhood. I do a lot of walking, I'm in pedestrian mode on a regular basis. I hope I don't get bit by a dog. Getting bit by a dog is something that concerns me every time I set out on a walk. I should probably pick up a can of pepper spray when I go back to the U.S. My neighbor said "In Tijuana, there are more taxicabs than there are people." In my mind, other than taxicabs, the dogs outnumber humans, too. Well, sort of. All in all, when I stop and think about it I can't believe I actually went ahead and made the leap. But I did. I'd like to thank Mary Ellen, Cyanide41, and HK70 for responding to my post.

I picked my name for several reasons:

It's a way of poking fun at myself, a little self-flagellation and deprecation, I'm ridiculing myself.

It's got cachet.

It sounds good.

I grabbed it before someone else could grab it, which is another reason.

And no, I've never seen the movie, not yet anyway.

In Topic: Motorcycle riderS where are you?

I used to ride but then I was forced to sell my bike. I'll be buying another one in about a month or two. I wanted to buy a Victory but I'm pretty much forced into buying a Harley. Harley is one of the few makers who will sell you a bike with ABS brakes, something Victory won't do on their Vegas, Boardwalk and High-Ball models, otherwise I'd buy a Vic. I just gotta have ABS on my ride.

The long wait at the border: Does anyone know if the Border Patrol actually allows, encourages and has a rule in place that permits, and mandates, the fact that bikers can cut to the front of the line without being penalized and chastised by the Border Patrol?

Congrats.  I can't get one because I got a DUI.  All I do is walk across the border but because of my misdemeanor, I'm not eligible for one.  What burns my a$$ is that CBP hands them out to MX nationals like candy and there is no way that they can do any type of real background check on 99.99% of the MX nationals that they issue them to.  Unbelievable.

Ex-criminals like you can still get a SENTRI card, sort of.

Buy a motorcycle.

That will get you to the front of the line even faster than a SENTRI card might.

The driver in the car you cut in front of might get pissed so be prepared to show a little class and hand them a $5 tip through the window which is something I might do since my trips across the border would be infrequent as I, if I move to Mexico, would not have to go into the U.S. on a daily basis.

Having a woman on the back of your bike while you hand them a five spot will double the amount of class to your person, not to mention the fact that the drivers eyeballs will widen just a little thus cutting you more respect  cool.gif

I don't know...does anyone know if the Border Patrol actually allows, encourages and has a rule in place that permits, and mandates, the fact that bikers can cut to the front of the line without being penalized and chastised by the Border Patrol?

Your point about Mexican nationals who can virtually fly under the radar and obtain a SENTRI pass even though they may be Mexico's version of Al Capone is well taken. Several years ago I was told that the CBP has a tough, zero tolerance policy in place for Americans. Which means if you were ever charged (and not arrested) with a crime then that charge would automatically disqualify you from receiving a SENTRI card. I am not sure if the zero tolerance policy is still in place, but if it is, you just gotta figure that would rule out a large percentage of the American populace.

Hello, this nice old lay has a estudio apartment for rent that's furnished in Playas. Kinda near all stores me shops plus it's 35min by bus to the border.

Is $200/mo for a small studio apartment a good deal?

I can't answer your question. But based on what I've read, the people who did answer your question really should have answered it by asking:

"At a price of $200, did you find it by doing a drive-by where you saw a FOR RENT sign posted or did you find it on Craigslist? Because there can be a big difference between an online price and a posted price."

Or so they say...
