Hi!  Welcome to the land of the Golden Taco.  I'm glad you like it, although I just returned from Ensenada (Carnaval) and thought it was everything TJ and San Diego should strive to be.  I didn't see any crime, (except prostitution), the streets were clean ecpet the confetti and things from the festivities and I foud a hotel for $200/night and a hostel for $18 Dollars/night.  In all the food was good, inexpensive and desirable.  The people were friendlier that TJ.  It was a VERY good experience.

I was in Ensenada last night for Carnaval as well. I found it to be a little too much borrachera (sp?) for me. I like Carnaval in La Paz a lot more. Its more like a fair there rather than concentrated on just drinking.

I did find a room for $285 pesos that was really decent and even within walking distance to carnaval. I ended up paying $21 for it. I'd say that was quite a deal. That is in contrast to the disgusting hotel I saw literally next door to the carnaval that was only advertising in dollars ($60) and I don't think I would have stayed in even if they paid me to stay there. Haha. Moral of the story. don't take the first hotel you see.

Hi Danielle, Welcome to TJ and to the Forum. I am a Gringa, and I live here as well. So you go to school in San Diego. You must have to cross the Border quite a bit! How are you finding that? Do you have your Sentri Pass? It is great that you have spent time in other areas of Mexico so that you can get a cross reference of what its like South of San Diego.
Good Luck to you and your Fiancee' and I am happy that you are adjusting well!

Yea I cross A LOT. Sometimes even 7 days a week. I'm trying to keep it down to 4 but thats not always possible. Yes I have Sentri! I think I'd die without it seeming as I have to cross so often. The Sentri line seems to be getting longer and longer everytime I cross. I feel like sometimes its even longer than the regular line...

I have never witnessed a mugging nor been mugged but one day about a month ago I was walking in a residential area with my boyfriend and we encountered a dead body (the guy was shot), but there was no one around anywhere nearby. I havn't gone for a walk since then...

In Topic: Nows the time to rent in Rosarito

I moved from Cabo to Roarito this past November.  Cabo got to expensive.  I feel as safe here as I did in Cabo.  I have no fears  walking around Rosarito.  I live downtown and really enjoy it.  I am about 200 yards from the beach.  Rent is much cheaper here and the people are much nicer.  I do not think you have to be "Brave" to live here.

My fiancee just got a job in Rosarito and we're considering moving from Tijuana (Libertad) to Rosarito. Any recommendations on any houses for rent? The craigslist ads tend to be a little sketchy...

I read that the average factory worker in Tijuana earns around$80-$100 per week.

Well i don't drink cokes and hardly big macs.I like to watch my diet, alot of fruits, vegetables etc

My fiancee was working in a factory for awhile as a NURSE full time and he was only earning 1500 pesos every two weeks. Thats not even $300/month. Thank God he finally got out of that job and is now working at a hospital. A nurse earns 5000 pesos every two weeks in a hospital but jobs are scarce. So with a degree you might make max $1000 a month if you can even find the job to make the money at. When the US economy is down... the TJ economy is even worse.
