If you really want to go cheap charlie The sony mylo is the way to go fits in your pocket its old but as far as skype goes all you need is wifi and you can make calls anywhere. Now i just use it at home because ive hacked a iphone to tmobile with the skype app i get unlimited data and no need for the wifi hotspot. You can use google voice as well free calls and free number in any area code.

if ive said it once i will say it a thousand times use skype 30 bucks a year you can use it at home or on your android or iphone on the go Google voice is tottally free and will even give you a number for free as well call any phone any time links below.

Another vote for Ubuntu!!!!! Ive been using it for 5-6 years now it is also based on Debian. it does everything once you became accustomed you will never use windows again. burn a disc and free yourself from virus's and paid software.they have a version thats strictly set up for audio video and graphix as well called Ubuntu Studio oh and it even runs windows software through Wine i use this to play steam games ie counter strike.Here are few links:
