This story brings up an interesting question.  If you knew a known drug smuggler and he was treating you as a friend or confidant, would you hang out with him?  I know many will answer no due to the violence and danger involved but what if he treated you to fine dinners, invited you to alcohol free parties and introduce you to beautiful women?  Would the perks justify the danger?  And when he's broke or in jail and asked you for help, which inevitable he will be, will you be willing to help him and possible getting further involved in this type of business?

Great post.  Thanks, very interesting story.  Reads almost like a crime novel.  I have to start following the LA times.
