I've found information on lots of dentists in Tijuana, but are there any in Rosarito that board members would recommend? Thanks.

"Dr. Tony," who speaks English, is a young graduate of the University of Baja California School of Dentistry and did an internship with a California-licensed dentist in Los Angeles as well. In addition to his private practice in Rosarito, he is on the dental staff of the Children's Hospital in Tijuana.

In his private practice, he specializes in general dentistry for adults, adolescents and children, orthodontics, and some cosmetic dentistry. He is very competent, has reasonable fees, and has state-of-the-art dental equipment.

He is available for appointments on weekdays after 4:00 p.m., and all day Saturday.

His office in Rosarito is located on the town's main boulevard (Benito Juárez) in the small commercial complex (Plaza La Costa) where the Blockbuster Video is. You can see the Blockbuster sign from a distance. It's on the east side of the street, about a mile north of the Rosarito Beach Hotel.

I go to Dr. Oscar Avila. His office is on the beach side, just a bit south of McDonalds. Everything is spotless. He teaches at the dental school in Tijuana, as does his periodontist: Dr. Amelia. I've found them to be very professional, and I have many friends who also go to Dr. Avila. smileoac@hotmail.com from U.S., dial 011 52 661 612 1383

I know one Dentista to avoid: the one who has an office next to the Commercial Mexicana in the center of town. The facilities are nice and modern, and the dentist seems nice, but when I went in for a simple cleaning she told me that I had 9 cavities and needed massive work. I knew this couldn't be true, so I went and got a second opinion in the states and one in TJ and both said my teeth were fine.

Another one to avoid is in the Plaza Ejido shopping center. I can write a book on the horrors he put my wife through. Avoid him.

yes, it was quite a shock experience ... i did let her clean my teeth and she did a good job, but soon as she said i had 9 cavities, i split ... the good TJ dentist we found, through a friend, was "Gabiente Dental" ... a father and daughter team ... very ethical ... very good ... I was impressed and to be honest, I was terrified to try a dentist outside the US, but they are great and it sounds like there are many other great dentists in TJ

I can't believe people still have fear of coming to Mexico. Makes me laugh. Drug Wars?? Are you involved?? Lived here for 6 years and feel safer and life life more fully than we could ever do in the States. That is like saying you wouldn't go to Florida or Chicago because of the drugs. Silly, silly, silly. Dangerous? NOT.

Some people cringe when they hear that people go to or live in Mexico.  I have people telling me all the time that because I'm moving to Tijuana, I'm going to be murdered by the drug cartels.  I just tell them it's just as safe as living in San Diego.
