Hello, everyone. I am moving to Tijuana around August 1st, plan on renting for about a year as I save for a down payment on a condo here in San Diego. While browsing a few online property rental sites, I've found that many (and in some cases, most) property sale prices are listed in USD. I've heard various takes on the legal/not legal issue regarding home ownership in Mexico, and am wondering if anyone here can give me a quick and basic take on whether or not it is possible for a single, unmarried American to purchase a home in TJ? Many thanks in advance. |

I would advise you to rent to make sure you enjoy living there first before you take the next step of buying a home. Plus if you are commuting from TJ to SD and you have never lived or stayed in TJ before I suggest staying in a hotel in TJ for a week or two and try to commute to SD to make sure you like the experience. If you do not have Sentri it will get old real quick!!!!!!

Be weary of postings on Criagslist or other sites that list dollars. That usually means they are looking for Americans and jack up their prices. That not to say you can't find a good deal online or in Dollars. Most people on here will tell you to hit the streets in a neighborhood you like and look for renatl signs.

you can buy property. there are many U.S.A. finance, escrow and title companies providing financing and closing services to ensure you do not get burned. You will have the right to rent your property, sell it or whatever you want to do. Problem is U.S. and foreign nationals try and save money by not paying to have all title work done properly.
