I have been hearing all this talk about a rain storm that is coming Monday and continuing into Wed. Has anyone else been hearing this? The school I am working at said it is supposed to be huge and similar to a huge flood they had in the 80's and they will be closed if it rains hard. Obviously, this city is not built for rain. I am just wondering what others have experienced?

San Diego calls out the national guard when they have an inch of rain but from what the news is saying this will be the big one!

I love rain and this will be a doozy when it hits Tijuana!

I've heard the same thing about when it rains. CBP's heat sensors do not work as well in the rain so it is real easy to sneak into the country under the noses of la migra.

The drainage infrastructure in the non-poor areas of town has been improved since the great flood of '92.

Civil Defense went out last week to the poorer neighborhoods to warn the inhabitants to move out temporarily or at least to higher, safer ground in preparation for this weeks storms, with #1 pouring down now as I write this.

ME TOO!!!! So far so good! I have lost power just about every time we have a storm for the last 9 years! I am not kidding, it is horrible and frustrating, the last big storm that we had a little while ago, we didn't have power for 4 days. Last time, I heard that there were power lines down because of the strong winds and that they were extremely busy and that is what took them so long to fix it. Meanwhile we were mudded in, so no car, without power, lights, T.V., fridge, stove, internet or telephone. I had my American Cell but wouldn't you know, it needed to be recharged so it ran out after a day.
This time I was pretty nervous.... did you guys feel/hear those winds! They came on like a Bull and after a mild morning it sure rained buckets! Then yaaay! we got a break. I hear that it will start up again tommorrow and keep up without a break till the end of the week. Scary! We will see I guess.
But...I am staying up late tonight getting alot of work done, just in case.
I cannot believe how lost I feel without some modern conveniences!

That sounds pretty rough sugarpaws. I hope you are better prepared now. It is funny how lost we are with out things like cell phones.

I had to go into work yesterday even though I had MLK day off. The trolley was empty. Left downtown SD at 4:30pm and it was pouring down. Made it to the trolley without getting drenched too bad. Once at the border around 5:30pm the rain was not too bad. I walked to my apt. in zona rio. Branches were down and the low parts of the streets were gushing rivers. Took a shower right away but never had any problems with electricity. This morning on way to work streets and sidewalks covered in branches and mud.

The power flickered on and off but stayed on. It really came down yesterday within a few minutes it was already a river outside my house. I hear it will be really bad thursday.

Lukily i live on a hill. But i aint staying in TJ this week. My wife is on vacation with our son in Jalisco, so for now i only go home on the weekends. I am staying up here in Irvine this week. It was bad yesterday. I can only imagine how TJ is right now. Hope everyone stays dry, with power, water, and stay safe......

yes i do. Wife was not able to get a visa. So we decided to get a house in TJ. I do have a sentri pass, and we have been here for 2 years. and i do it mon-fri. Gotta do what you gotta do right? Keep the family together. Luckily our newborn son (well 9 months old now) is now a U.S. Citizen, so he can come and go. Long story on why she cannot become a resident of the U.S.....But we are still here...

We lost power for 3 hours today

You too George? Sure enough, me too yesterday, but it just got turned on again around 10.00 am this morning! I was happy yesterday because up until about 3:00 everything was fine. It did not even rain that bad. The wind was howling a bit but not as bad as the day before. Then the lights flicked and off, went on about 10 minutes later then boom, off again this time for good. This time it was like a brown out. No computer, Telly, or electric Stove etc, but we had low, low lights. No real need for candles this time and it was not pitch black.
How romantic.
I was prepared, and had candles ready, I already prepared a giant pot of homemade Caldo de Pollo and had fresh rice cooked. I had hot water for washing ready and other things. We even had a bbq set up in our part of the house that is under constuction. I still went thru T.V. and computer withdrawal! Now it is back...let me hope that it lasts! I hope at least if I am hit again that I get the brwn out so that I can catch up on my reading.
Good luck all, stay healthy thru this weather and try to run between the raindrops if you have to leave the house!
