It's a ways off but I was planning on booking a hotel for the Rosarito / Ensenada bike ride in April and was looking for recommendations. I checked on Expedia and some of the other travel sites and just based on that I was thinking of the San Nicolas Hotel and Casino. It seems centrally located and has decent prices. I don't see it on the recommended hotel on the rides site. Does anyone have any experience with this place or other recommendations?

I'm looking for one in the downtown area, not too far from where the ride ends (near the coast), that is clean and nice but not too uptight about guests possibly showing up late with new friends. Price range around $50-$90 a night.

In Sept I think we stayed at Costa Baja Hotel. I am not 100% on the name but it was right on the west side of the main drag there and about 2 blocks from where the shuttle takes you to Rosarito. The rooms were "ok". Nothing special but they were atleast clean. The pool was very nice and the bar area was cool. The Bar manager was very nice and she spoke great english.

I have stayed at hotel Americas in Ensenada. They are about $25 per night. Good value for the price. No problem bringing a guest back.

Located on Ave. Lopez Mateos west of the river, west of downtown.

I'll do a little more research before deciding and will post a review here when I do.

I ended up staying at the San Nicolas Hotel and Casino for $59 a night, pre booked. the door price was quite a bit more (980 pesos). It was clean and nice, great pool, nice bar. The whole place has a 60's elegance with an Aztec theme. I love places that have a time capsule feel, much more interesting than modern and boring. All the rooms have a view of the Olympic sized pool, there is also an outdoor hot tub that was quite popular. There is a full bar, and restaurant. I'd stay again when I go back in September, but the prices seem to be double what I paid, so I may look around.

It's a moderate walk to the tourist area, the parking is in a gated lot across from the hotel.
