For the most part, I think most neighborhoods in Tijuana like the neighborhoods in LA or SD is pretty safe. But there are a few in LA (Compton and although getting better, South Central) which I don't think would be a great idea to recommend to someone who's never live here. I was wondering are there similar areas of TJ, that it might not be advisable to rent in. I heard for a fact that zona centro isn't very safe as that's where a lot of the deported gangster live as well as the red zone being there. Other area I heard that might not be so great is Florido as they're not as tolerant of others there (I heard that from somewhere). Of course, I'm aware that the good places are in Playas and near the Embassy but those places also are much more expensive.
If there are any other neighborhoods that you wouldn't recommend to a person moving down to TJ for the first time, please list them here. Or the opposite if there are good areas that don't list gringo prices, those will be helpful too. Thanks all.

area would be important too. let's just say that you don't want to move to Colonial Libertad if you're black. kinda like you don't wanna move to Soler if you're an API.
from a guy I know.

What is "API"? And what is the risk of being one in Soler? Someone on this site mentioned Florido as a decent option. What do you kow about it?
So far, I know that Chapultepec and Aguas Calientes are good, and some parts of Otay area can be alright.
I'm just getting to know different areas of TJ. I also would be interested in recommendations for areas to live in and areas to avoid.

R that's the same information as I'm trying to get. Thanks for the info on Chapultepec. Where is that near exactly? As for Florido, that's just what I heard, not sure why execpt that I was told it was far.
And API is Asian pacific islander or Asian. Apparently, they aren't too fond of Asian moving in like some Californians aren't fond of mexicans.

I would avoid:
Villa Fontana
Most of Centro
Any place that is being settled by squatters (areas all over tijuana)
Areas where they are building massive amounts of very low cost housing (these areas usually deteriorate over time)
Some good places:
Apartments that are close to the border look decent (near Puebla Amigo)
Playas
Hippodromo
Some areas of La Mesa
Chupultepec
Most of Zona Rio (though mainly commercial)
Gaucho
Most coastal communities
I am sure there are many other good and bad places all over Tijuana. Depends on what you are looking for. Many people (even people who have lived in Tijuaua for many years) don't really know all of the neighborhoods well so it is difficult to get information... especially if you don't read or speak Spanish.
Keep in mind that the population in Tijuana is most likely higher than San Diego with less structure less information on the Internet.
Also, petty robberies are much more prevelant in TJ since there are many families that make extremely low amounts of money (by US standards) and may need to resort to stealing to survive. So having your car stolen, vandalized, robbed or your home robbed is likely. Be very careful with domestic workers (maids, nannies, people working in your house). Spend more time thinking about ways to secure your home and valuables.

Mirador on the way to Playas is pretty nice. It got run down, but I think it has improved recently. I have a friend who moved from there because the rent is a little higher. She went to Soler (Hacienda Linda Vista) since the rent is a little cheaper (3br, 2bath. $500). Also it is closer to more stores than Mirador.
Living with one foot one each on side of the border.
