Got a question. Maybe you guys know, or maybe there is a topic on this or youcan oint me in the right dirrection. My uncle has a 1990 toyota 4-runner. It has California plates, and he wants to take it to Mexico (Michoacan). We know you can get a vehicle permit for 6 months, but you have to birng the truck back. If you don't bring the truck back they stay with the deposit you left to get the permit. But he does not want to bring the truck back. But then again, he does not want to loose 200-400 bucks from the deposit. So how do we go about legalizing the truck (making it a mexican truck)?
Can we make it a Baja truck (Baja CA plates)? That would be considered a mexican truck right? Or just get the permit and legalize it in Michoacan? Gimme some options, or links, or things i don't know about. I would appreciate it. Thnx

There are placas fronterizo from BC or Sonora which are easy to get. The placas nacional cars are bought new in Mexico or went thru the nacionalizado process. Michoacan does not offer Fronterizo plates since it's not on the border. I have nacional on mine - D.F.

I do remember it was ONLY 1998 cars that you could bring to Mexico and register legally. I only know this because my cousin had a business selling cars and he'd get e-mails from all over Mexico specifically requesting 1998 cars. 1998 BMW, 1998 Volkswagen, 1998 Audi - didn't matter what car, it just had to be 1998.
