I have a friend who just sent me some info about a shooting in front of Calimax in Rosarito. They said that there is also something going on from Popotla to Puerto Nuevo, and I am wondering if anyone can tell me???????

I found a couple articles on the Frontera newspaper, but my Spanish is not good enough to be able to tell what happen.

The info I got was that this shooting pattern was different, they killed all the people instead of just their target. After the shooting, police were checking people later, by the Primo Tapia gas station, making them raise up the shirts of the men, and checking their cars.

Any info would be appreciated.

This is the conversation that was forwarded to me about an incident at the Calimax........Hugo Torres giving a interview on Friday afternoon....

Hugo was just on the Television
[4:20 P.M.]:  and?
[4:20 P.M.]:  everyone in Rosarito reacted to rumors
[4:21 P.M.]:  its not true about the children
[4:21 P.M.]:  good
[4:21 P.M.]:  but all the schools were evacuated
[4:21 P.M.]:  Is there a curfew?
[4:22 P.M.]:  no
[4:22 P.M.]:  Playas and TJ have a 7 PM curfew
[4:22 P.M.]:  well people are putting the curfew on a voluntary basis because so one goes out at night
[4:23 P.M.]:  What did he say about the military?
[4:23 P.M.]:  he has requested more military and funds from the Governor and from Mexico City to Equip the police
[4:24 P.M.]:  they are going to buy heavy weapons for the police
[4:24 P.M.]:  Is it true that 20 police quit?
[4:24 P.M.]:  they didn't mention that
[4:25 P.M.]:  What else?
[4:25 P.M.]:  people are calling into the TV station asking for Hugo to resign - saying that he can't handle the crisis
[4:25 P.M.]:  but Hugo says that he loves Rosarito and that he will stay
[4:25 P.M.]:  Why are they saying that?
[4:26 P.M.]:  because of all the killings
[4:26 P.M.]:  Did he say the killings are drug related?
[4:26 P.M.]:  yes he said that it was between two rival gangs
[4:27 P.M.]:  but they don't have them identified
[4:27 P.M.]:  I see.....well surely someone will "rat on them"
[4:27 P.M.]:  hopefully
[4:28 P.M.]:  but the killings last night were a different pattern
[4:28 P.M.]:  how is that?
[4:28 P.M.]:  usually they kill the person that they came for - but last night they killed everyone
[4:28 P.M.]:  The ones in front of Calimax?
[4:29 P.M.]:  right
[4:29 P.M.]:  That's close to your HOUSE!
[4:29 P.M.]:  yep - and I heard nothing !!!
[4:29 P.M.]:  Did you see Military after you left the office?
[4:30 P.M.]:  went to get gas at Primo Tapia and the Navy stopped him and he had to pull up his shirt and they searched his car.  He said,  "Go right ahead"
[4:31 P.M.]:  yes - they were there in Popotla and then at Mc Donald's there were a lot of big pickups with Regular police with their faces covered up
[4:31 P.M.]:  they don't stop me - - an old lady !!!
[4:31 P.M.]:  So did Hugo say,  stay inside your house or give any precautionary suggestions?
[4:32 P.M.]:  well he said to act with precaution - and to use your common sense
[4:32 P.M.]:  and above all do not panic
[4:33 P.M.]:  well - what else can you do
[4:34 P.M.]:  talk to you later
[4:34 P.M.]:  OK stay safe

Which Calimax? The one at the North end near Office Depot or closer to downtown?

Also, I am in the area on a regular basis and have not heard of anything unusual at the Primo Tapia Pemex. When was this supposed to have happened?

THIS IS THE INFO A FRIEND SENT ME SATURDAY REGARDING THE INCIDENT ON THURSDAY IN ROSARITO:

Calimax on the north end of town.  acroos the street is the Vetrinarian and feed store where i believe the killings occured.  i think  5 were shot and at least 3 were killed, including a 15 year old school girl.  Torres had previously made a statement that only Drug Cartel members were being shot.  Apparently students were also  threatened with further shootings and the schools experienced low attendence afterwards.  Drug Cartels want the Federales to  be removed from  Rosarito, which tells me the Federales must be effective in keeping the Drug Cartels under a lid if they  are complaining about them.  Tourism in Rosarito  and the $$ that go  with it have all but disappeared.  Cartel members have been living in Rosarito  for years but never did violence here.  I cant believe the Police dont know exactly who  they  are and exactly what their address is.   The Rosarito  Police Dept. has only recently been cleaned up.  It sounds like they  dont have anything similar to  a USA vice Squad/ anti-gang unit here.
