Starbucks introduced Breakfast sandwiches to the American consumer and hurt Micky Dees temporarily and now Mcdonalds is striking back with full force by adding mini barista sections in their restaurants. With the growing gas prices and the average drink in Starbucks roaming close to the 5 dollar mark I think this will put a big dent in Starbucks.
I like both mcdonalds and Starbucks coffee but prefer the Mcdonalds brand in taste.

In my opinion, Starbucks is a joke! Coffee for $5? $4? Even $2!!! Give me a break! And you see those happy a-holes sitting around drinking their $5 coffee on their laptops pretending to be important...give it a rest!!! Go to McDees and get ur self a $1 (or so) coffee that has been proven to taste better (by recent taste tests...look it up) than that starbucks crap!!!
No offense to anyone on this forum. I'm just venting and expressing my opinion...

Starbucks drip coffee is addictive because it is so strong. At $2-$3 a cup, it is a price that many are willing to pay.
But the higher end drinks are being cut back as they may be seen as a luxury in this tough economy.
Until I read this thread, I really didn't consider their breakfast sandwiches as a viable option to an Egg McMuffin.
McDonalds Iced Coffees are good because it is one stop shopping with their food. But they are really sweet.
McDonalds will hurt Starbucks much more than Starbucks will hurt McDonalds, in my opinion.

It was rumored that Starbucks and mcdonalds had a gentlemans agreement one would not expand their coffee menu and the other would not serve breakfast sandwiches. Well Starbucks broke the handshake and Mcdonalds is going all out.
I agree Micky will take a big bite from Starbucks coffee!

The last starbucks I had was at a store inside a Marriott we were staying at. About $2.10 for the small cup. They always ask if I need room for cream, which I say yes and they proceed to leave the coffee 1/2 inch or more from the top. At there price that a loss of about .35 cents worth of coffee. I have been buying bags of coffee at the GTM stores for $3.00 and something cents and making my own coffee. I probably get 60 cups per bag.

a cup of starbucks coffee has 240 milligrams of caffeine; a venti cup has 400 milligrams.
there was this guy, came in EVERY weekday morning at 5am to get a venti cup of coffee with 2 add shots of espresso. total caffeine: 550 milligrams. EVERY morning.
a venti peppermint latte has about 950 calories, w/140 + grams of sugar.

Be careful of the caffeine comparison. When it first came out, McD's, 7-11 and Dunkin were all able to say theirs had less caffeine. But here is the rub, they were using about HALF of what Starbucks was in the brewing. When the competitor's coffees were recalculated to brew strength, Starbucks had less caffeine because it was roasted darker and that means less caffeine in the cup, per brew strength.
There is no comparative test, as far as I know, using Pike's Place on the Starbucks side and that coffee is very comparable to the others in roast level and strength. Pike's has been on the market about a year and any comparison should state exactly which bean or blend is being used.
One man's statistics are another man's damned lies.
