I don't know why some people worry about the quality of Pemex. I drive a new Benz C300 (not the ugly Chrysler 300C) and I've never had problems putting in Magna gas in my car. I used to drive an Audi A4 bought new in Tijuana with nacional plates and that car also ran fine with Pemex gas.

Mexico has no intention to scrap gas subsidy-FinMin

GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Aug 13 (Reuters) - The Mexican government has no immediate plans to abandon or change a subsidy on gasoline, Finance Minister Agustin Carstens said on Wednesday.

The government is expected to spend close to $19 billion this year to subsidize gasoline, diesel and household cooking fuel in an effort to shield Mexicans from spiraling world oil prices. (Reporting by Luis Rojas Mena, Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)

I've gone back to buying gas on the US side since the price is about the same.

Around the Otay border crossing the lowest I've seen is $2.29 if you pay cash.

Paid $2.17 this morning in Imperial Beach. TV news is recommending waiting to fill up on Monday as it will drop another 5 cents.

Thanksgiving had me on the US side in which I happily filled my tank for the great price of $1.88/gallon at a station at J & Broadway.
Then as I headed towards National City, I passed some other pumps at 4th & E Streets selling at $1.73.
Needless to say, I sort of felt like a turkey . . .. .

Checked again last week. PEMEX gas was 7.72 mxn/liter X 3.785 = 29.22 pesos.
29.22 at 14to1 exchange rate = almost 2.09 per gallon. Almost the same as SD.
No reason to cross to one side or the other just for gas price savings.

How much is Pemex gas now? I heard it was $10 MXN per litre.

Gas is under $3 a gallon — in Tijuana
Stations there are selling "Magna" unleaded gasoline at about $2.80 a gallon. (It's actually 8.92 pesos per liter, so you have to convert both the currency and the volume.)

The exchange rate on the above website is out of date/unrealistic. You're not going to get 11.95:1.

During my last fill-up regular (verde) gas was 9.0 pesos per liter. The station offered 11.85:1 making it $2.87 per gallon.
At 9.0 pesos per liter and 11.5:1 (what the casas de cambio were offering that day) gas would be $2.96 per gallon.

Funny you ask. After seeing that in O.C. the gas is about 4.69, and I bet san diego is worse, I thought I might as well start filling up in TJ. This morning at about 5am, I pumpted at Pemex, corner of Agua Caliente & Blvd. Cuauhtemoc and it was at $3.22 USD per gallon. Or $10.54 pesos per liter.

Most Americans also don't realize that all gas in Mexico is refined in Texas...not Mexico. I've used Mexican gas/Verde for the past 2 years in my Toyota with NO problems. I never get gas in the U.S.

Between $5 and $6 a gallon in san diego. It is suppose to be the highest ever this weekend with a possiblity of a shortage.

While our neighbor country Mexico is fighting back the high price on eggs, we in America are fighting back the high price on gas. This morning San Diego residents woke up to the very discomforting surprise that gas stations where charging almost $6 dollars per premium gallon. $6 dollars! That is over 86 cents then the all time high reached last year, around this time.

Even more outraging is that the highest price for gas in California belongs to San Diego. Why? Maybe it’s because the closeness to the International Border, maybe because it is one of the most visited cities in the US, but whatever the reason is, the truth of the matter is that these prices are probably going to keep rising.

Today is the third day in a row that gas prices have gone up. During the weekend, gas prices began to inflate and on Saturday the price for a regular gallon was around $4.75, this morning the regular gallon is $5.79, $1.04 dollars more than what was reported on Saturday.

To this issue many residents have opted to go to Tijuana and fill up the tank, compare to prices in California, they can save up to $30.00dlls.
