Yeah me too....But I'm never lived in any other places besides La Paz and Tijuana...but I've never seen the Sally Struthers look on any of the faces I see. Mexicans from my experience are proud to a fault.

To add a little bit more... from my experience... many Mexicans are filled with nothing but hope... in every facet of life they see opportunity... as BajaGringo stated "very proud and industrious"... My soon to be wife sees everything as a potential business... her hope springs eternal and she is not from one of the "elite" areas of any part of Mexico.

You are being respectfull as it is so there is no need apologize just because you have a difference of opinion. I like chatting or listening to people with different opinions than mine, which is probably why I actually enjoy listening to conservatives like Michael Savage and Rick Roberts on the radio.
I disagree with both of you in that the citizens enjoying the public CITY BEACH, the CREA Rec Center (which is not in a residential area and free), or other recreational areas around town like Parque Morelos, Parque Guerrero Teniente, and Parque de La Amistad are very representative of the population of TJ as a whole. More so than a small park which is located in and almost exclusively used by a specific neighborhood from La Presa to Cacho.

Like many other cities I have been in, TJ is a mix to me...
I'm in Otay Mesa, Modous 5. My neighbors work, clean around their house, in short act like "normal" people.
I have very rarely lost power or water. In fact my power has been up longer in a year than any year in Seattle (fewer trees ;-)
Some parts of TJ remind me of some parts of Oakland, or Baltimore and Philadelphia (Born in Phila). Some areas I wouldn't go into in daylight, armed to the teeth.
It seems TJ does have it's element here that uses the city as a staging area to jump the border. :x
At first I had trouble living "behind bars". Now I don't see them. My neighbors are friendly and watch my back.
I like it here.
If I move, it would be for one hella of reason. The kids love to see the old man kick the soccer ball back at them. I see a lot of locals using the park/lake (free & public) the same way I am (walking the lake). OK I'm the only one with nordic walking sticks, and they don't even look twice. Too busy checking their pulse and distance on their jog I guess...

Milky...who the hell cares if you like it in Tijuana....I never see you around so maybe you know some secret places I don't...You don't post about them thats for sure....
Shit the only secret place I have is my house. Speaking of running water the downstairs sinks water pressure is like a dribble. Not sure what to do as the whole house is fine. We have 2 1/2 bathrooms and their water pressure is fine?

Your average latino measures happiness in love of family and friends and the time shared together. Material things are appreciated and enjoyed but not held up as the ultimate goal in life as most gringos seem to do.
I think this best summarizes the difference between Mexicans and Americans. We see what they lack in materials whereas they see what we lack in closeness to our families. As they say, money and material things come and go but family is forever.

For me, it's the language barrier. Granted, I along with the majority of Southern California youth, were required to take Spanish all throughout school. Notwithstanding, and although I've since learned to take on a more idiomatic slant, being there only on the weekends has kept my Spanish from fully developing. It's like I've hit a glass ceiling. I can communicate effectively but I sound like a 5 year old. And I'll tell you at times my head will literally hurt from being bombarded with Spanish.
So what are you most sick of?

I got to that point, and at times I feel like I'm going backwards... it seems like my fluency comes and goes in waves. In the beginning, I would get physically exhausted trying to translate everything into English and vice versa. Now I don't even translate anymore, it's kinda like English, the words just come to me.
BTW ronnie... this is even more off topic... we're gonna get banned :shock:

3. Small Bathrooms - what is it that every bathroom in every rental apartment I see has no space?
3. No Mail - In the over two years I've lived in Tijuana I have recieved 3 pieces of mail and no way to pay bills by mail or online
4. Crime
5. Lack of quality Chinese Food - There is only Chan's
6. Lack of Quality Italian Food - I haven't had a quality piece of veal scallopini since I've lived here.

Yep... Does anyone here actually have a BATH TUB? All of the rentals I looked at when I moved here 2 years ago had showers only.

#2 on the list for me is the lack of a sense of urgency - I wonder if there is even a Spanish equivalent for the word punctuality (yes, I know there is).
For the first year I was going out with my girlfriend, her lack of punctuality resulted in many many fights. Slowly I have gotten used to it but as someone that spent a good part of their life in Manhattan, the sense of urgency (lack thereof) in Mexico is mind boggling. It's like the slightest diversion will derail them ... in fact aren't the Spanish words for "diversion" and "fun" starkly similar?
When we went and saw 300 at the VIP last weekend, we made it a point to catch an early showing. Well the stupid theater lights weren't working so we kept getting herded back and forth between theaters delaying the movie by over an hour. The annoying American in me wanted to raise all hell and let out the "I paid money for this" cry you hear all too often in this country. But everyone else was just mozying idly by as if it were no inconvenience at all. I needed 3 Negro Modelos to get me to that point.

I'm proud of you ronnie... you have been doing a good job of checking your temper at the border lately... I had the same thing happen to me at the VIP... I got a little upset because it was a movie that I really wanted to see (yet, the title escapes me now... :roll: ) My GF just looked at me like I was from another planet... she has a way of bringing me back down to reality... to not get upset at things things that do not really matter.
BTW... my apartment in TJ had a bathtub...

True. It's been raining so much that the hill sides are turning green. The hillsides are so lush and nice. The green blends in very well with the garbage that seems to have been bulldozed off the top to the hillsides on the way from CENTRO to PLAYAS.
When you say the RIVER do you mean AVE INTERNACIONAL.
