Question for Playas: If you were living in San Diego and damaged the exterior of the house that you were living in and the landlord asked that you pay for the damages as soon as they were repaired instead of taking it out of the deposit, would you think that you were being taken advantage of or that the landlord was asking for something that was rightfully his?

I have been reading this topic/thread with some amusement and much disdain. I wasn't going to say anything butt now as an EX-PATRIOT & Basic All Around USA Hater I can't seem to keep my mouth shut.........

(PLAYAZ)
higher class Americans

Do these actually exist? And Higher Class Than Whom?

(PLAYAZ)
I see Americans getting punked everyday, living in various countries.

Just curious...... How do you see people from various countries of the world getting treated when they are guests/visitors living in the USA?

With respect, consideration and kindness?

IMHO People treat people like shit everywhere.

The landlady wanted her money that she had to spend and wanted to maintain the depoist against future damages that might be caused by the tenant.

In Mexico

In the USA

Everywhere I have ever been a landlord or tenant the landlord has a right to compensation for damages caused by a tenant for misuse. They don't have to spend the money to repair the damages that is their choice. They can use the money to upgrade the repairs again their choice.

Legally you are obligated to pay on demand for the damages. It is your choice to move instead then of course, the landlord will deduct the damages from your deposit.

(On a side note PLAYAZ & stanthebajaman I have a boxing ring at my house if you want to work it out between you)

Actually I never read you say you weren't going to pay it nor do I have any criticism for you trying to use your deposit to pay it. Nor did I even address that issue other than to give you my answer to your question.

Renting is a negotiated deal and sometimes there is a time to re-nogiate and re-negotiate and maybe again depending how long you live in the same place and what happens.

I guess I mis-understood your comment about "higher class americans" it sounded to me like you were saying any american was higher class.

Travel Much? Hmm I have been living full-time outside of the united states for the last 19 years. I go to the states monthly to pay my bills and collect my pay check. I travel further south in Mexico and to Honduras and to South America half a dozen times a year. Every other year or so I get over to Italy for a couple months if I am lucky with my work schedule. (I work Online so Only Client Meetings effect my travel plans.)

Since you brought Tijuana's finest into it I first reply with a confirmitive. I have been pulled over just because the cop wanted money. Butt I have to tell you all the Mexicans I know complain of the very same thing happening to them all the time too. The local police are equal opportunity victimizers. I personally don't complain too much about the way I have been treated with the police because I have been victimized by the police on the US side too and so have most people. I confess maybe not to the point where they put a little baggy of salt in your pocket while your being patted down and claiming it is drugs just so they can extort you for 20 bucks. Butt they do it to the locals as well as the gringos. They just bite the gringos a little harder because the gringos usually have more meat to bite.

I have been treated better everywhere I have traveled than I ever was treated in my own country the united states.

I really dont care where I live, where I travel to, or what my status is..
I refuse to be taken advantage of and I refuse to let
people mistake my kindness for weakness.
I refuse to be stereotyped, I am not an American, nor
do I wish to ever be one.
So everyone may read this and imply that "oh shes american she thinks shes priviliged" bla bla
Guess what Im not an american nor do I have love for America, and some of you know that.......but I have been stereotyped many times.
Its general knowledge when you are a tourist anywhere...that you will be subject to being taken advantage of.....you win some u lose some ITS LIFE!!
And this is why we have boards like this to discuss these matters......and Im definitely going to stand up for myself no matter where in the world I am, and right I agree America is no different from anywhere else, its just as worse!

Sorry for the misunderstanding, peace!!!

First of all, do you have your FM3 Visa? or FM2? If not, your lease, even if written in spanish doesn't mean squat. You have no rights in Mexico and all your landlady has to do is to call the policia and you will be immediately deported.

Although when I first heard of your situation (and news travels far and fast as it was "off" the blog and in public), I sympathized. When I read the post, I realized that you are probably making enemies with your attitude (and particularly your choice of words) and your landlady is simply reacting to your own sucky behavior.

Beachie

How very true!

Go to France if you really want to be treated badly and please do not write me and curse and call me names; just speaking from my personal experience.

Go to Ireland if you want to be treated really great!

But I do have to give Playaz a standing ovation with applause for telling some people off; Playaz merely asked for some helpful info on external damage costs and had no intention of skipping out on it; just that the repair seemed higher than the actual damage and I don't blame Playaz for questioning the 'rebuilding' of the wall or whatever.

Don't think Playaz has a sucky attitude, but obviously the landlady and Playaz don't get along and Playaz doesn't like being over-charged, just as the rest of us would not like and be annoyed by.

Please don't fight guys. We are here to help each other. Disagreements happen all the time but keep it civil.

Playaz here is how I would handle it. Apologize right away and tell her you will fix it. Call a few local Handymen and see what the costs will be. My guess is around half of what she was trying to charge you.

If she is going to be a stickler then move out and find a better place.

Sorry you are going thru the trouble and I hope it works out for you.
Good Luck

Most landlords in Mexico are used to their tenants fighting with them over things and the fact that he came on the board and asked for advice as what to do showed me he has good intentions, just doesn't want to get screwed. Who can blame him? Mexico is my home country and full of a lot of very nice people but when it comes down to business we can suddenly turn very jewish - no offense meant to anybody but that is what we all say. Landlords are used to having to be tough and even come across as b****y sometimes or tenants take advantage of them in situations like this. Believe me, it happens.

I just want to know when the boxing match is gonna be? Will there be beer and pizza?

Since I wasn't paying attention to this board for a few weeks, Milky, please allow me the opportunity to add my two cents worth and then I will gladly shut up.

Playaz: I really don't give a mouse's butt over seeing your papers. I simply wanted to you to know that yes, you can get booted out of this country without them for little reason. My neighbor was deported for chopping up some concrete out in the street. Policia were called and they asked for his papers. He had none and yes, he was deported. I do stand by my opinon of you as having an opinion of yourself that is just a bit too high? S* smells, even yours. My only question for your remains this: Since the wall was damaged by your vehicle, why didn't you turn it over to your liability insurance carrier? Certainly you are driving with insurance.

BuenoOnda(Sp?): I beg to differ with your comment regarding Richsinc's use of Depends and defend him. You should be hopping around as well as Rich and as nice as he is, to boot. Rich is a bit rough around the edges but a gentle being and a gentleman.

Unfortunately if you are here living with no papers the police can turn you over to immigration and have you deported. The truth is that it doesn't happen very often and just depends on the attitude of the officer and the situation. My uncle worked as a police officer for many years in Tijuana and I can tell you that it usually happens over disputes between a mexican national and a gringo where either the mexican gives the police money or the gringo really p****s the cop off by something he said or did. Of course it is easy for the gringo to come back across the border but if you do, make sure you move to another area. That cop will remember you and your car. If he sees you he will look to make some easy money off you. If you are arrested the fine will be much higher as a second offense.

Beachie - Can't Mr. Rich take a fun poke from a little latina? After all, he did start with the name calling if you read back, calling me immature. I really don't take this at all serious and based on posts from other members I thought mine was not that bad.

Mr. Rich - Sorry if I hurt your feelings. I am not a bad person but you know us latinas. If you poke at us, we poke back harder. I am sure you are a nice guy. I promise to behave.

BuenaOnda;

Didn't think I'd ever be typing to you again...

I had no intention of poking fun at you or anyone ever, unless of course it's a family sibling, which was the daily past-time growing up.

If you took it as poking fun at you, then I am sorry.

I just expressed my feelings concerning what you wrote and yes, I can be sarcastic and brutally honest at times. Like a few people here have said, some people don't read what others are actually saying, of which I may be guilty, and do not read what they type and how strangers may interprept (sp?) it. And that's not even going into the spelling seen here... smile.gif

There have been times I've read a post and reread it and reread it and still had no idea what the poster was talking about.

Anyway, I take people as individuals, as they are and not in stereotypical goups. Heck, I didn't even know you were female or Latina; makes no difference to me.

Didn't hurt my feelings; beyond the "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me" phase; just think it is tottally un-necessary on this blog, as well as cursing. (Gee, I think that was my original point before all this!)

I know that I can be fiesty at times Mr. Rich and sometimes I let it get the best of me. I guess one of my "hot buttons" is when someone calls me immature which is what my older brothers say when they disagree with what I am doing. I am probably younger (27) than some here on the blog but I am a mom to 2 small children and on my own for the last 2 years since my husband was killed in a car accident. I put myself through school and got my university degree. I have a good job and I pay my own bills. My older brothers are still living at home with my mom and can't even keep a job. Yet they call me immature!

So I am sorry Mr. Rich, I guess I need to temper my reaction. I promise to play nice!
