As a result of the financial state of affairs, I suspect it's a conspiracy to discourage people north of the border from spending their $$$ south of the border.

I wouldn't be surprised.. I have always felt that the homeland security or whoever is not happy when we come or live here, by the way they act, and the obstacles they place.. So, who knows!

Every night the past few weeks when I cross back to TJ on foot between 6pm-7pm they usually have anywhere from 3-7 agents standing before the first turnsytle into Mexico sometimes with a dog. I have seen them question certain people.
Crossing into SD around 7am the past couple weeks I have noticied as many as 7 or 8 agents along the ped line inside the building watching the people and they also have been running a dog along the ped line in the building as well.

A week or two ago, headed into Otay by car, we and a whole line of maybe 20 cars were diverted into the truck crossing area and they had us get out and have the xray truck drive by to xray all the cars. I've never had that happen before on the US side on the way out of the US. It was weird.

Got to wonder if some folks here are just a wee bit slow? Every newspaper and TV station has commented recently that the Mexican Gov has asked the USA to help stop the flow of weapons and drug money into Mexico and the spot inspections are one of the methods we agreed to. Both Otay and San Ysidro are being remodeled and exit inspection facilities are one of the big changes.

This is big news down in TJ and most locals are begging to go back to the way it was. My neighbor bought an extra car and leaves it at the border now. What used to take him 1-2 mins to cross now takes between 45mins to 1 hr during peek times.
They just started using those mechanical gates which slows things up ten fold!
I agree you can't have it both ways. That is why I expect delays and to be scrutinized when I go to the airport. We don't live in a perfect world.
