The M70 is actually 200 watts RMS per channel. The Pioneer, Sansui and SAE amps from the 70's have a very different sound from today's equipment and I just can't find anything I like better. 5.1 Surround remains the most listened to standard however as BluRay has won the HD war in DVD's you will see more sales and products available in 6.1/7.1

I have listened to a 7.1 system but couldn't hear much difference. I took out my single center channel speaker and ran it through my M70 into a pair of Yamaha NS500M's and that did make a huge difference. Could be my old ears just don't pick up some of those rear frequencies any more...

some people by $500 inter connecting cables and swears that they could tell the difference.

what ever fits you budget and ego when it comes to this stuff...

new herry potter blue ray or hd dvd movie is recorded using 7 channels in studio, in this movie, i can hear the difference between 5.1 and 7.1

not many movies have 7.1 but as soon as studios start filming new movies using new 7.1 systems, you might want to up grade the receiver.

studios and electronic manufectures are holding each others hand when marketing this stuff, thats why sony/masushita s blue ray won over toshiba s hddvd...nothing else

my philosphy is simple on owning a HDTV, use it or lose it..

like i said, i only watch TV for movies and sports..not much else

I agree that people go way overboard with this stuff. More than just a hobbie, this has been a large part of my life for over 30 years when I began to collect some of this equipment. Music is on all day at my house and I couldn't imagine working or living without it.

I bought a BluRay player months back but ended up giving it to my daughter and son-in-law. I was going to go out and buy another but decided to wait and see who would be left standing after the dust settled. You have to give Sony credit - they were due to win one. They lost the videotape war in Betamax vs VHS so I suppose it is only fair that they win this one.

I gave my BluRay away without even opening the box. My daughter tells me that they have noticed that even their old DVD's look better on the BluRay. Have you noticed that?

Actually the Yamaha DSP-A1 is 7.1

I am glad to hear that my city is getting better tv and internet options available to contract. If we are going to move back I will need my internet very much as I will contiinue to work online for my company in marketing. My family uses SKY satelite system. Anybody here use them?

Personally, I don't like SKY at all...I have dish network and bell express vu...I get over 1000 channels on 4 tvs and I pay $0...google "fta" to find out more about what I'm talking about...

Well, technically it's made (the sat box) for general broadcast or free to air channels...if you get the right box and u know how to download software off the internet u can get EVERYTHING dishnet and bell express offer...yes, even pay per view, fights, hbos, and even porn...google fta...the only drawback is that it goes down often (once a week or so) but you can get the "file" to get u you going for free online...by the way, never pay for this file because it is always free!

U onlu need a standard 18-20 in dish which direct tv and dishnetwork already use...the lnbs (the nipples facing the dish) are a different story...check ur pm...by the way, u can catch dishnet with a directtv dish...just fyi...bottom line: a dish is a dish! lol! The important hardware is the LNB...again, check ur pm

the reason blue ray or hd dvd players give better picture for standard DVD disk is it up coverts to 720P / 1080i or 1080P ...

its not just conversion that make these players better than standard upcovering DVD player, these blue ray/hd dvd players uses better video processing chips inside through less video noise and so on...

right now, hd dvd players are selling at less than $100 at Circuit city or amazone with 7 free movies, this is very good deal since their are close to 500 HD movie titles availible..

samsung or sony blue ray players can be bought for $150 at searse if they have in stock, i believe its BDP-1200, it has been discountinued.

the newer models are around $400 range, the main difference is blue ray players are not fully developed and just like a computer, some disk maqy not play if its different profile, only reason the studios went with blue ray format is , it offer better security for copy protection...

the regular joe did not get the better deal on when blue ray won, competition is good for consumer and since its only one format for HD players, the price of these units+ disks will drop even slowly..

its like this we all know when a poster writes i get all these satilight channels free by having the right equipment and down loaded file.

think of this as HD DVD manufecture/ toshiba, the owners of software just pulled the plug because people could eventually get it for free/ ie, movie studios..

in future of electronics, its all about interlectural property rights...

blue ray is not fool proff since i been told its hackable already...lol

toshiba and sony lost money on these formats and toshiba deceided get out early because they did not wanted lose anymore than they already have even the toshiba is more proven technology.

only thing blue ray has on hd dvd was capability of storing more data on single disk...lol

not a big deal since the movies are not getting longer and they could use back side or another disk...

Much of the world is less subjected to censors than the US. This includes Mexican television.

so then the kids of the world are all warped cause they might see something they shouldn't. but american kids-nope. they can watch all the war coverage on fox6 (11 in l.a.) and street killings they want.

Violence and gore is also much less censored than in the US. In LA they will see a story about street killings and maybe a yellow tarp covering the body. In Tijuana you would see the body lying in the pool of blood.

Not arguing for either point of view but my personal leanings are very anti-censorship.

Yes, but with directv u need a card based hack. With dishnet it is all software based.

I don't know the precise time, but I always stumble upon it on channel 14 Sunday afternoons around 4 or 5. Matter of fact, I was watching it earlier when I posted. In each episode he goes to a different city and just hangs out chats with and interviews the locals. Today he was in some town in the state of Chihuahua interviewing an apple farmer, he hung out at a Mennonite community, and then he went to eat cabrito at this restaurant.

His humor, his manerisms and his super thick gringo accent are classic.
