In the states, many have had to compete with the likes of "Just Desserts" or others. Here we can be spoiled by the sheer number of panaderias (usually at least one in every colonia), but most are sorely lacking in quality or variety I'm looking for. Local expectations from these bakeries don't seem that high to me, but some panaderias will definetly do more business than others (Examples - slow: Holanda @ Parque Independencia on Allende verses busy: El Lobo @ Centro's 9th & Negrete). If you make what people are used to and introduce them to some new interesting items, I'll bet one could make more than just a living. I've always thought that San Francisco's plethora of Chinese style bakeries would do very well in Tijuana once the locals get exposure to the juicy dim sum items among many other items that can be sold.
Wish I had the money, motivation, & know how -- cause that is a goldmine to be had.
Takers anybody ? biggrin.gif

Agree, the cheesecake(?) down here does taste weird.

And the Panaderias on both sides of the border have never met my cravings and I thought everybody loved brownies...

Guess I've been spoiled by ethnic bakeries in New York and Chicago.

Seamus; you make brownies too??? Gran Marnier souffle asking too much? When are you moving/opening???

Mexican cheesecake reminds me of cheesecakes in Italy, but with the addition of condensed milk for a butterscotchy flavor. Personally, I like them. Just don't compare them to American ones (and be fooled by the literal translation), because it's a matter of comparing apples and oranges. The ingredients are simply different.

There is a delightful French bakery in the Plaza Rocasa on Agua Caliente, across the street from Univ of Tijuana by Av. Sonora and just before the Super Gigante before you get to Grand Hotel. It's next to the wine bar, Pan e Vino.

the idea of doing personal food shopping for us NOB's is a good one.

I'll tell you one that I find I am stocking up on...

the premium tuna fish in the foil packages. I find the tuna steaks are fast to microwave up and make a good entree. NADA in TJ.

I would pay a small ransom for Challange butter.

And the list goes on.

A bakery sounds good, especially if you have everything except mexican goods! lol

Im really missing BAGELS, bagel shops? havet seen any here
Also american hot dog rolls and burger buns? we dont get those in the grocery stores here!
Oh yea a place like "extroadinare desserts" some name like that? that would be yummmy!

Mexican bakeries are not appealing at all, I dont know, everything seems so hard and doughy, but thats good in a way, keep the fat level low haha.

OK somebody bring me bagels and Ben&Jerrys... tongue.gif
